SO I went originally to Jim Bass in Angelo for a fluid flush and they found a gasket leak. got that changed and then started leaking again a couple days later and they changed the other gasket. with those they went a ahead and changed the fluids out. Haven't seen another leak.
This OP didn't have issues until it cratered. It was fine till it wasn't. No issues leading up to it self destructing. I stopped in Kerrville at Whataburger to get a bite to eat. I get back in the truck to leave. When I crank it, there is a huge metal grinding noise, then it wouldn't budge. That being said, first sign of issues, it was towed to Stoepel Ford in Kerrville. All previous maintenance was done at Jim Bass in San Angelo.
you said it was leaking. I am not trying to pour salt in your wounds, I'm really sorry you have to deal with this.

BUT

when it started leaking, that is the point where I would have had a 3rd party investigate.

the other thing that bothers me about your issue is that the transmission does not require a gasket to drain and refill. in fact, if you check this video, the tech mentions not to use an air or electric ratchet for fear of overtorquing and stripping the drain plug.

that's in fact my guess as to what they did. stripped it and caused a leak.

but it's just a guess, because now they have it back and it sounds like you have already paid for them to replace it or whatever.

Yea so 23 Maverick XL Eco. 76,400.1 miles and my transmission cratered on me. had the fluid changed at 60k miles. yes I drive 150 miles a day in West Texas. I don't hot rod or even tow with it. luckily It died in Kerrville so my tow was only a couple miles, bad news a remanufactured transmission is $7300. This Sucks. no option or a new one.

I saw few days ago one for 2500 on the local market, check your closer junkers, mavs are starting to pop up in junkers at least here.

Sorry to hear about this.

Is that including labor and everything? And I'm assuming when you say you had the change done, it was the dealer that did it?

I have to mention to other readers: This is why the extended warranties are so important. $7300 for a transmission replacement. Even just a valve body service the warranties will pay for themselves now. It's insane.
Unless the actuaries messed up I'd have to disagree. On average you lose with these extended warranties. Sure, the rare person could "win" but more likely you lose because you are either denied coverage or you didn't need it.

I agree with the poster who said it’s suspect that after the transmission was split to repair the gaskets the issue popped up.

I would suspect contamination or some sort of bad repair job personally due to OP never towing or beating on it..

Hopefully as time goes on we can get some DIY’ers to write up an engine or transmission swap on these cars. I did one on a Volvo it took me 11 hours start to finish, totally doable over a weekend. And would save thousands of dollars.

Bought over 20 new Ford pickups (contractor hauling men and equipment AL, TN, GA) from 1978-02. Mostly wore them out with 200,000 to 350,000 miles. Of course had plenty of maintaince upkeep and wearable parts but the only blown transmission was after a friend convinced me to have a transmission serviced at around 60,000. It lasted about another 5,000 miles.

Yep they don’t offer it to lose money. They play the numbers and those numbers say you are far more likely to just toss the money away than it actually pays off. Hence why they push it so hard on point of purchase. It’s not cause they wanna be on the short end of things.

Dealer I bought my Maverick from has a 200,000 mi warranty that covers the truck after the 3-year. $36,000from Ford. 100 deductable transmission is one of the items covered as well. 👍😎
Ya but the warranty costs more than the truck is worth so what's the point?

🙃Freudian Slip but you're upside down anyways. 🙃

Depends on the warranty cost. Just bought an aftermarket warranty for $1700 with 120,000 miles and 6 years. Local Ford dealer said they have no issues doing work with this warranty company over the past several years so hope it stays that way. Repair bills are too costly now to not have a warranty.

Say the OP had the extended service plan that they bought from Granger with that deal they offer, would that have covered this transmission replacement?

OP sorry to hear about your transmission.
I wonder if the hybrids ECVT will be at all problematic?
