Have you heard it already?
Not the maverick unfortunately. I haven’t even seen one in person yet. Who knows when I will get to. I just know it’s going to be pretty quiet. At idle you can hardly tell some newer cars are running.

My 94 Camaro Z28 w/corvette LT1 engine and Borg-Warner 6-speed (manual) transmission is rated at 275 HP. My 2015 F150 3.5L EB is...365 HP.

The Camaro can smoke the tires in at least the first three gears. It just amazes me how much the HP (and torque) has gone up in the past decade.

Yes, we are spoiled and I believe the Hybrid 2.5L will be "good enough".
Today engines make power more efficiently than in the 80's-90's and 2000.

Power is about perception, stock my M5 makes 553 HP, from a twin turn V8. Today the same car is making 725hp, thanks to a few tweaks. I still get the same highway mileage as it did stock, high 20's on the highway at 75. Who back in 70's would have assumed we would get this kind of power, and be reliable.

Merging is a bad one but even worse? Try driving in a mountainous area with an underpowered car, especially if you get caught behind a semi struggling to make it up the incline and you want to pass.
I made a drive like that in a Nissan Versa once and swore I'd NEVER do it again, lol. The 2.0 EB in my Escape is damn near perfect for me power wise (although the constantly confused and hunting transmission is a different topic), so I expect the Mav EB to be a nice, parallel move. That's why I changed my mind post-order and switched to it from the hybrid.
I live in the mountains at >7,000ft. Our current car has 150hp at ~3100lbs. and my previous car had 120hp, never an issue. In fact, I don't think I've ever floored it in either of those cars, in over a decade of driving our family of 4 in these mountains. I got it all out in my early-mid 20's racing superbikes in WERA, accelerating as fast as possible on a public road doesn't really do it for me and it certainly isn't necessary in any sort of normal driving that I have ever encountered (even with a paltry 120hp). The hybrid will be plenty of power for us.

Everyone's different, I guess that's why stock cars range from 120hp to 1500hp. As for fast acceleration, I guess I didn't quite get it outta my system racing cars down the strip in my 20s. Definitely got the 125+ mph stuff out tho! :p
So I will partly agree with you, driving recklessly on a public road is no bueno; I've seen firsthand what can happen when things go wrong at high speeds. But "accelerating as fast as possible" isn't that dangerous in and of itself. As long as the car you're driving isn't too powerful, you can accelerate "as fast as possible" from a stop light right next to a police officer and not even raise their eyebrows. When passing, regardless of how fast your car is, it's often advantageous to floor it, too.

With all that said, my real takeaway here is, hats off to you. I can't imagine never being in a situation in several years of driving to floor it once, especially with the inclines you regularly navigate. You are a very patient and very lucky fella! You also sound like the perfect hybrid driver too, as you won't have to adjust your driving style to get the best MPG. Sounds like you'll be as happy with your hybrid as I will be with my EB. (y)

I have a 2020 Subaru WRX @ 3340lbs, 0-60 around 5.5 seconds, 268hp/ 258 tq. the Mav EB tips the scales @3731lbs, 250hp/ 277tq. so like having a couple of "robust" passengers in my Subie. I think it will be pretty nippy, maybe high 6- low 7 sec 0-60. and lets not forget, the EB motor is very tuneable!

Let 'em eat horses. Well unless you're vegetarian 😉

Muscle car power will be for Jay Leno types pretty soon. EV is where the power is now.

When I hear:

"I need more power", it's an easy answer:

"You've heard about the F150 Lightening? The Mustang Jet 1400? There's so much torque it had to be limited."

Or when in California:

"Tesla Plaid. Yup they've gone plaid" :)

I have seen a lot of people worrying about the power of the Mav. It blows my mind where we are today. The low end Mav has 190+herspers. The EB has 250. The 1994 f150 six banger had a measly 145 herspers. For those of you who say, well that was the lowly six banger Ill raise you the 1994 FORD LIGHTNING had 240 and weight 4800 pounds! I have never heard in my life anyone say that truck was under powered. The 1990 1500 SS had 240 horses. These were the PERFORMANCE trucks of the day! Go back to the 80 and its uglier. In this day and age of 700 horsepower trucks people have forgotten that even 400 herspers is A LOT OF POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have become spoiled to super powered trucks. My 94 150 with a 5.0 was rated at 195 herspers. I put 300k on that engine towing boats and trailers across the South. It was NEVER underpowered.

So bottom line people, the 190 out of the Hybrid is enough. More than enough. As much as a V8 in the 90s. The EB is more than the PERFORMANCE TRUCKS of the 90s. Dont worry about the power of this truck. It is by far more than enough and more than most of us grew up with.
Yeah, I get a kick out of reading ANY vehicle reviews, and they're like, "well, this minivan went 0-60 in 7.5 seconds, which is a whole 1/2 second slower than the Mercedes..." Like, who gives a rat's A???
Crazy.

There's this expectation people people have that being able to accelerate fast will save them - That getting up quick from zero will get them out of harms way, or that boosting from 60 to 80 in a second on the highway will make merging and lane changes wreck-preventing maneuvers.

In reality, outside of a few well trained people with lots of experience, that kind of power/maneuvering tends to put people into guard rails and other people's fenders.
I've been saying that all along. Heck I even saw it on the HPDE track. New guy who thinks he's all that and a bag of chips shows up in a Lamborghini Murcielago...to an HPDE event with mostly 4-banger daily drivers. His strategy was "smash it on the straights". He didn't last long before leaving.

If the speed limit is 65, I drive 65.
You and me both. Yeah I have the training and skill to drive much faster than the government has deemed safe for freeway travel, but I have no reason to. I might save five minutes on a 1-hour drive, but I'll be a lot more stressed out from having to concentrate harder.

My last F-150 had the 5.4L V8 Triton with the PI heads. 260HP in a truck that was 4800lbs or so. It was no slouch, at least when not towing. Seeing the EB Maverick come in sub-4000 with 250HP is impressive.

Although I am 100% confident that the Maverick (both hybrid and EB) will be just fine on power considering their intended use, and that the Maverick is the sensible, logical, and economical choice, part of me still wants to get an F-150 with the 5.0L V8. Especially now since they have 400HP. I've driven several '18-'20 5.0Ls and one '21 5.0L. The acceleration is almost comical.

Told myself, once I have a garage big enough to park it in, I'm getting one.

Imagine the Shelby version with almost 800 herspers....the issue with those however is the steering seems to lock up for men....apparently their erections get caught up in the steering wheel when they gun it!

I've had zero issues driving on or merging onto the highway in my 08 Prius. Also no intention of ever really towing anything. So a moot point for me, hadn't even considered it. I live in Indiana so I'm surrounded by morons who drive as well.

If you are not passing please stay out of the left lane doing the speed limit. Some of us enjoy driving 10 miles over the limit. Thank you;)
