The "80% rule" is a common safety guideline used by many drivers and trailer owners to ensure they don't push their tires to the literal breaking point.

If your tire sidewall lists a maximum cold pressure of 52 PSI, the 80% rule suggests you should target a working pressure around 41–42 PSI.

For daily driving on paved roads, staying on the higher end of your manufacturer’s recommendation (usually found on the sticker inside the driver’s door) offers several perks:

Better Fuel Economy
Reduced Heat Buildup
Sharper Steering
Load Carrying

235/65R17 Falken Wildpeak AT tires call for 52PSI maximum so, 38-41PSI is safe (80% rule)
Still, seems a little high for my usage but to each his own! I don’t tow or have a lot of weight in the bed so 35psi cold works for me.

The only advantage to 100% nitrogen is better temperature stability. But I would not pay for it.
Wow! Cool. that that is correct. However, consider the the the specific heat capacity is more significant at high temperature ranges that one sees track race tires. It's about a tenth of a joule per gram, on the order of .9 joules per gram for oxygen and one joule per gram for nitrogen, I think. But given that you already have 78% nitrogen in air and only 20% oxygen, then driving your Maverick in the temperatures the tires are likely to see will never be a worthwhile issue to consider.

So, yeah, I guess we agree 👍

Sorry, but my comment about 78% nitrogen as it's portion of the he atmosphere has almost zero relevance for tire pressure, except for the previous bit about specific heat capacity, which is only relevant for track race tires encountering high friction on curves.

When parked, my tire pressure will vary 4psi difference from the driver side to the passenger side throughout the day and stabilize at night, it‘s nuttier than squirrel turds!

This thread reminds me of an oil thread 🙄

Since the OP stated he had the service done by the dealer, I would think his tires should have been set correctly to the recommended pressure on that sticker in the door jam. Thereby eliminating the need for fiddling around with the pressure.
My Mav came with all 41psi cold and that was at freezing temps outside. .
You were saying something about the dealer doing the right thing?

Most likely due to direct sun exposure on one side vs the other.

Dude....run 38/39 and forget about it. 35 to me is a bit too soft. 40/41 is a bit too hard.
my "optimal" is cold 36/36. its cold right now and i have 34/35.

when i 1st got the maverick, the lowest was 42 and i liked it a lot....looks like i just forgot about it.

I agree PLEASE no more oil change posts. I will say this, then am leaving I couldn't get near 40mpg last summer with my new Lariat hybrid, one of the guys said raise your tire pressure to 40, I did, I did 41mpg few days later vs. the 32/35mpg I was getting. I set my tires at 38 cold they go up a few pounds after warmup.

When I replace my factory primacy’s I’ll have to behave in the turns. I made it through winter on them so now I can play away enjoying the turns with no concern about my tread.
I’m down below 7/32 now, getting close to the yellow on the gage. I always get tires when I hit 4/32’nds.

Those Tremor wheels are cool that orange makes it easier to spot the air stem valves!! :)
AT’s right, my mountain bikes always has two odd color spokes at the valve stem.
Helps in finding the stem during a flat fix.
We also put the tire name badge right over and centered on the stem. It’s in the rules, The Velomenati, keepers of the cog.

Rule #9 :
// If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Fair-weather riding is a luxury reserved for Sunday afternoons and wide boulevards. Those who ride in foul weather – be it cold, wet, or inordinately hot – are members of a special club of riders who, on the morning of a big ride, pull back the curtain to check the weather and, upon seeing rain falling from the skies, allow a wry smile to spread across their face. This is a rider who loves the work.

Hmmm! What's the chill factor inside a tire at 75mph?😂
