Well, in most cases, the sensors will let you know that there is a problem before a tire goes completely flat and leaves you stranded. So there is that...

Fix-a-flat will not harm a TPMS. I've used it before with no issue. I would recommend cleaning it, as well as the inside of the tire when you repair the tire.

If you do use Slime (or Fix-a-flat), make sure you advise the tire shop when you get the tire repaired/replaced. While they hate dealing with the stuff (it's toxic), if they are forewarned they can take the proper PPE steps before getting splashed with the stuff.

But, isn't your spare supposed to be what you use to recover from a flat on the side of the road?

Slime isn't extraordinarily toxic, nor is PPE is recommended according to the SDS. But it is a PITA if you don't know about it and the stuff spooges all over your tire machine. Even then it takes extra cleanup of the wheel.

Interesting conversation about fix-a-flat and TPM's.
Some vehicles only come with a can of sealant and an inflator. No spare.

It's not like they are new. TPS's have been required on all cars since 2007.

Think your better off carrying a set of those tire plugs and a portable compressor. Or call AAA to swap to the spare.
