Went and test drove a Ford Ranger with tow package yesterday as I was interested in getting something that will handle more hitch weight as I'm close to 400 pounds now with my camper loaded. Just driving the '25 Ranger on country roads I was only getting 12 MPG. Heck, I get a steady 13 MPG towing my camper in the hills with the Maverick w/4K. Guess I'm not going to trade at this point.

Honestly that was the big let down on my maverick. Went ahead and added the airlift bags in the springs and never looked back.
just add the air you need and go

ford would tell you the Running in/ break in period affects the MPG, 1000 on ranger and eco boost, 4000 on a hybrid Mave
Even as a new vehicle with only a very few miles , the ranger should get more than 12 mpg on a country road at normal speeds. I don’t know how far he drove. But I’ve noticed that it often takes about 20 miles for the accurate mpg to settle in. At only a few miles of driving, any variation such as climbing a hill or acceleration from a stop will make the mpg appear abnorMalloy low For a while. He simply may not have driven long enough to get an accurate reading. Although not exactly a fuel miser, the 2.3 Ecoboost should return a very respectable gas mileage

I agree, you really need at least 100 miles to get an accurate MPG average out of the computer. Otherwise certain things will absolutely tank the average rather quickly. I also believe the MPG will be different during break in, but I can't be absolutely sure of that.

Yes, the mileage will be somewhat lowered during break in but it shouldn't be nearly as low as what he seem to have experienced

I had a 20 Ranger with 2.3 and got 22 combined city/highway and 14-16 towing car hauler trailer. Good truck and downsized to a Maverick but occasionally miss the Ranger when doing truck stuff.

Ahhh, the Supercab model....did not transition to market in North America during the MCE....due to North American crash test regimens I am told.

The problem is the water tank is up front and not over the axle. filling it for boondocking adds almost 160 pounds forward of the axle and puts me close to the hitch limit of the Mav. For now we carry the water in the Mav if we can't fill with fresh water at our spot. Was just hoping the Ranger would be the answer but at that low MPG no way.

'll bet you banged your head getting in and out of the Ranger. I looked at one and didn't even test drive it because I had to fold up like a pocket knife t0 get in the thing. Li'l brother has a lot more head room to get in!

I think it was basic economics, cheaper to make one cab style since ext cabs didn't sell well compared to the crew cab. I wish Ford made a 2 door cab on the Ranger and Maverick but doubt I will ever see one.

No, it was the 2.3. Kind of disappointed that the MPG was that low with no hills.
Stupid question but was it set to liters per 100 KM?
12 liters per 100km isn't an unreasonable number to see from a new Ranger, a lot more likely than 12mpg.

If they did, they'd have a loyal following. However, it's likely to be a small percentage of sales. As evidenced by the fact that I've only seen one or two "small cab" Rangers and just a relatively few two door f150s and super dutys.

I looked at some Rangers recently.
The aesthetic proportions are off.

It’s the same width as the Maverick but taller. Made Ranger look “skinny”.

I think the proportions of the Maverick are spot on. It’s in the eye of the beholder if Maverick is wide for its size or if the Ranger is narrow for its size.

But everyone I meet says Maverick is a good looking truck. I have to agree.
