I am two months into owning and daily driving a 2025 Hybrid AWD. All of the reviews, window sticker, and published data indicated that I would be getting 37 mpg combined city/highway. Well, that is my daily routine - about 50% city and 50%highway based on total miles driven. The city may not be bumper to bumper like New York traffic, but there are plenty of stop signs and lights with average speeds around 35 mph.

I am only seeing 32 mpg on my short and long term trip computers readings.

I do not use the Economy mode because the vehicle is pretty slow already. And I am not pounding the pedal constantly to race it around. Pretty normal stuff and not loading the bed or towing (yet).

I have about 1,200 miles on it so far. Thought it might get better over time, but has not. Also, I notice that the 2.5 liter gas engine is on far more than I would have expected. Stays off on very slow starts up to about 10 mph, then the ICE kicks in.

What is going on here? Am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions? Can Ford make any changes to improves this?

Any suggestions would

I have the 25 Lariat AWD hybrid. I always keep mine in eco mode. This is my average since new. I know others have done better.

I believe what you said, however, in this case, if you expect the mileage to improve, it likely will, regardless of the fuel difference.

This is due to a common human trait that occurs when people test anything.
It's called observer bias.
It's not that you intentionally are trying to make the fuel factor improvement happen, but subconsciously, you may change your driving behavior enough to make it appear that way.

That's part of the reason for so called blind tests, where the tester, in this case , wouldn't know whether or not regular or premium were used during the vehicle test.

Premium fuel with a higher octane rating will make a difference in an engine like the 2.0 Eco, but the Atkinson powered Hybrid does not need the extra octane rating, and that provides no benefit to the hybrid. Higher octane is really only needed to prevent detonation due to premature firing.

There may be benefits from the premium additive packages, typically additives that act as cleaners to fuel system components, but that process is unlikely to make a difference on the first tank.
let me tell you a little anecdote on regular right foot discipline my 2022 xl Ecoboost AWD will return 35 mpg on the liars Gauge( trouble is it actually reflects it at the pumps) one time( I don't know if this thing was tuned or not-it runs like gangbusters) I got the bright idea to run high test through her, finally got it pretty well full of high octane, the fuel mileage went to shit! on normal circumstances it even tolerates high ethanol(88) without a burp,so I don't know what to tell you,the only mod I did to it besides good oil was lightweight rims and pretty free rolling all seasons tires, when you start adding big tires and wheels and lift the body mileage and performance suffer I chuckle when a steam roller Toyota tries to get by me on an incline, your right foot and driving habits will go a long ways toward good gas mileage, experiment and find what octane your rig loves the best.

I just checked, and I get 33.7. I have the hybrid and normally use economy mode, and I drive like an old man.

I keep fuel and mileage records. The dash reading is very optimistic

the people you see getting ridiculous mpg like 50+ are all driving mostly city,
My best MPG can be found on rural winding roads, 5-10 mpg better than the city. Curvy roads that average around 45 mph are where I can get 50-60 mpg. There's plenty of regenerative braking on the curves but the mid 40s to 50s are sweet spot for the hybrid, much less lost energy compared to going from stoplight to stoplight in the city,

Since I would need to manually change to Eco Mode every time I start the vehicle, I just leave it in Normal mode. I haven't noticed any difference in reported mpg in the cluster, only the regenerative braking is more aggressive. Since I can modulate the brake pedal to achieve the same regenerative braking, Eco mode seems rather pointless. When it's icy in the winter I almost always use the slippery mode. Less regenerative braking, but hopefully the ABS brakes will kick in if I try to stop on ice.

I’ve actually found that my 25 hybrid AWD 4K tow doesn’t get the EPA city of 40 it’s more like 35-37 but on the other end it gets 40 instead of 33 on the highway. Since I’m more in the line of 25/75 city/highway my overall mpg is close to the 40mpg.

That's been my experience, too.

Where do you live? Is it winter? Is it flat? All makes a difference. This time of the year in SE PA, I’m down to 38. Summer around 42. Driving late summer to very flat DE beach area is a 48.

I filled up my Ecoboost and did a 200 mile round trip ride to Asheville.
When I got back I re filled the tank.
It showed me 491 miles to empty.
I know flat landers can beat that but I’m tickled pink that I almost got to 500 in my Eco in these mountains.

I got a 2024 XLT Hybrid and I have always been in the 45-50MPG range. Even on a longer trip from Austin area to Houston (190 miles for us) the dash still averages 47ish by the end of the trip there and back.

my 3 year old consistently gets 43+ in the city and 37 combined and I don't pay any attention as to how I drive and leave it in default mode. Maybe a trip to the dealer would be a good idea, there's some smarts involved when switching between ICE and Elec - maybe something is a little out of kilter. Check tire pressure, and (carefully) touch your wheels after a trip - is they are super hot maybe the brake pads are binding a bit and it's putting a drag on mileage.

Please tell me you were being sarcastic.
No. It's my understanding that common compressed air expands and contracts much greater than purified nitrogen gas between -40°F and 140°F and is not contaminated with water. Pressure remains very stable with nitrogen gas filled tires.

I decided to take my tires to 48psi cold and mileage again went up with no adverse driving characteristics. Getting 37+mpg in rain and windy highway driving at 60mph to 75mph.
