I was out tinkering today with my truck. Both cables from the factory are equal length of course and each is about 3/4" too long I'd estimate (if they were 3/4" shorter, the tailgate would sit level/coplanar with the bed). I assume your new one is about that much shorter than the factory one?

The closest I can find to a part number on the factory cable is "C030D". When I Google that, I just get a few aftermarket cables for old f150s for some reason.

I wonder if this is indeed a new part number, or if there's just a new/corrected batch. I'm very tempted to order a new set, but I'd hate to get the "old batch" if that's a thing...

I believe C030D is the supplier code for the supplier who makes the cable or cable eyelet.

Just picked up my Hybrid yesterday. It seems much more level visually than my XL, I have not used a level or 2x4 to verify.

They should be adjustable.

I also noticed an opening with clear tape instead of a plate/etc from the factory next to the passenger side tailgate bottle opener - spare no expense - lol

clearly not there to cover that little hole. PPF. most likely to protect the paint from wear from the cable.

With the new left side cable its much more level- Just waiting on the new right side cable hoping Ford has figured this out after 80 years in the truck biz :)

I can't say why one was shorter- but these are known to stretch. On F-series and Rangers, I have sold one side to customers who were replacing because one side was loose. They tend to come back for the other side because both have stretched over time and the side that was better is now loose.

They should be adjustable.
They aren't where it is normally adjustable behind the taillights the nut is spot welded, I think another member grinded the weld to level it out and make it adjustable.

( I may be wrong but pretty sure I read that here. )

Either way, mine is level enough to not notice, so happy with it.

There's no way to adjust them nearly enough with that method to make the tailgate level. Mine are at least 3/4" too long. I think that guy just adjusted one so that there wasn't any slack

Interesting. Maybe Ford/their supplier has gotten their act together. Would you be able to give us pretty precise measurements of how long your new cables are?

I can probably get close, but it is longer than my calipers would measure. Let me go take a look
