Roughly 400 km on new 2025 XLT hybrid AWD. Pulled into a parking spot, shifted into Park and teh truck went full retard. The Park light indicator on the shift knob flashes. The dash flips through a series of error messages: NOT IN PARK, SHIFT INTO PARK TO START, etc. The gear selector won't move, which is a lot different than usual where it will just spin infinitely.

Of course this was all 3 minutes after the dealership closed.

At first, I couldn't even shut it off. Eventually it relented and shut off. Once it shut off it allowed me to lock and unlock the doors with the fob, not the door handle. It won't start - just goes into accessory mode and flips through the stack of error messages.

Nothing works. Could not use the giant screen to check the manual. Or to get the VIN - had to use a cell phone in the rain to try to read it. Could not turn off the parking brake - neither could the tow truck guy when he showed up an hour later - he finally gave up and just dragged the POS onto the flatbed.

We live 25km away from where the thing went mental and had to call friends for a ride home.

I'm not sure I will be able to be civil when I show up at the dealership tomorrow.

Good evening @Gaidheal.

Sorry to hear of your new vehicle problems, it is not good for this to happen at all, let alone a literally brand new truck. It's new, and it's on warranty, which is great!

That said, these things can and do happen (rarely, I am hoping). The good news is that you weren't too far from home (even on the island, you could have been stranded in a worse situation) but it sounds like you have it initially sorted out (the truck is sitting in the dealers parking lot) and will be able to see your dealer about the trucks break down tomorrow.

So, it is up to you how this goes...it isnt the person's fault at the dealership that you seem to have gotten a new truck that started getting assembled on a Friday before a long weekend and finished on the following Tuesday!

I am sure as soon as they find out what happened they will empathize with you and try to help you as best they can.

I will be hoping that they can quickly sort this out or if not, you get a different truck to take home....but it will take time.

At the least if they can work on it and give you a nice loaner as they work on finding out why the truck is possessed.

I am glad you were able to vent here, and hopefully not at some poor weekend duty person behind the desk at the dealership-that just can make a long hard day for everyone.

I also have a 2025 hybrid (took home end January) and have had no issues so far and feel that your experience is very unusual.

Please keep us in the loop as you go forward...as I know I for one am pulling for you that this get quickly sorted out to your satisfaction.

Have a good evening,

Andy

My truck is new & I would be “perturbed” like you are!

No help to you now - but I wonder if new truck “Ford Roadside Assistance” is 24/7 & free. Anyone have experience with that?

I had this happen a couple of weeks ago while trying to get into the service mode to reset my TPMS sensors after a winter tire changeover. Not happy. Locked shifter, don't know whether the truck will shut off, or whether the truck was in run mode. Since I couldn't start it or lock it even, I just gave up.
I shut the door and went away. A few hours later, everything returned to normal as if nothing had happened.
My Maverick is a 24 Lariat hybrid with 25 K kms.

Dang, it sounds like your truck needed a time out in the corner!

Nice to hear it came to its senses in fairly short order.

You may want to let your dealer know of the issue you experienced.

I imagine that you hadn't done anything squirrelly electronically so it might be in your favor to talk it through with your dealer in case it happens again. Just thinking ahead, just in case as it has lots of warranty left.

Have a good evening,

Andy

Have you tried turning it off and back on again!

Seriously - it's a big computer.

Disconnect the negative battery cable for a few minutes.

ETA - I just realized, I have some dual sided wrenches just in case, mostly to help others, but they are too thick to fit the bolt on the clamp. My tool box is in Rav4. I need an adjustable wrench just in case.

It will be interesting to see the state it is in at the dealer when I get there in an hour.

Never needed tools in a new vehicle within the 1st week before. If I need to carry tools to make this thing work they will make me a trade - their POS truck for all the money I paid.

I'm very interested in what you find out and if they suggest any user actions you could have done. I just ordered a 26, now I'm wondering

Take Care and keep us updated Please

If that was my truck, I'd disconnect the 12v battery, wait a couple minutes for things to discharge, then reconnect the battery. All new cars are technology which happens to be in a vehicle.

After thinking about it overnight and without actual troubleshooting info I am wondering if it could br a bad 12 volt battery or a loose electrical connection at the battery or elsewhere?

I seem to remember others saying they had weird electrical stuff like this before...was it because of a bad battery cable, possibly?

Anyways, still hoping rhis won't be too long in being rectified.

Dropped by the dealer and - since there is no service department on the weekends - I talked to my sales guy and they have loaned me a maverick until they sort out wjat's going on with mine next week.

Just for #science I drove over to my truck in the yard and verified that just sitting over night had *NO* positive impact on its condition. The same symptoms plus at least one new error message about the parking brake being in some less than fully functional state.

I did not investigate further - broken in this case is not a spectrum: since it's broken I do not care about how badly.

Updates as they are available.

If that's what they discover - and tell me - I will report it for sure.

I'm not ripping into a week-old truck in teh pouring, freezing rain, to diagnose or fix *their* problem. :)
