Mine do this, guess it's normal for this truck. Most likely due to having the cheapest wiper motor they could get their hands on.

RainX solves this problem, which isn't really a problem...
Wipers glide now. Of course, with fresh RainX, you barely need the wipers..

So now that we’ve had some real solid rain I’ve had a chance to obsess over this more. I did apply Rain-X and that did not solve the issue. I might do another application and see if that changes things.

The most peculiar thing I noticed is how inconsistent it is, and how sometimes the “jerk” is more aggressive to where the wiper lands at a much lower spot than normal. So when it’s doing it, the wiper lands in a different spot every time almost - I judged it by looking at its position relative to the black strip around the edge of the windshield. Most of the time it lands slightly above it, but then other times it will jerk below it. Just confounding to me how inconsistent and bizarre this is.

I suppose I have to deal with it but man does this drive me crazy and seems like something that should have a simple solution!

Wanted to post an update since this might help someone.

I tried coating the windshield with some ceramic spray - I used Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions which is the same product I use on the paint (bottle says it’s good for glass too). I also tweaked the wiper arm slightly as I noticed that the blade was not sitting perpendicular to the windshield when it was parked. I am happy to say the combination of these has drastically improved the issue to the point where I’d consider it “fixed”. They are significantly smoother and do not do the annoying “thunk” at the end of their travel, but rather just glide down to the resting point. I am hoping this stays like that but I will periodically reapply the ceramic spray. It also has the side effect of producing a Rain-X like water repellent on the glass like it does the paint.

It drives me absolutely insane to be honest. The ceramic spray and Rain-X blades do seem to help it but it seems to be an inherent design flaw. I’m a Ford guy deep in my heart, but how can you be making cars for 100 years and not get wipers right?

I have been dealing with the skipping/jerking wiper issue now since I bought my truck. I am starting to see it cropping up on many other people’s trucks too and hoping we could discuss what could be causing it.

What I'm referring to is only when the wipers are on intermittent mode, when they reach the end of the cycle to rest at the bottom of the windshield, they seem to skip/jerk ahead to a further stop rather than resting at the original point. When the windshield is dry it doesn’t do it and when using the regular low/high or washer modes they work perfect as well. I have checked and my wipers are aligned to the marks on the windshield, and I have even gone through a couple sets of blades and cleaned the windshield.

I have had it to 2 different dealers who could not replicate the issue. So based on feedback from other owners, I went ahead and just replaced the wiper motor myself. It’s an easy job and I had Ford points which made the part cheap enough to be worth the gamble.

The wipers are doing EXACTLY the same thing as before. I’m completely stumped now and all I can think of is this is either an inherent design flaw or maybe it’s the wiper linkage that’s to blame? I have no idea and this issue drives me absolutely crazy. Would love some input from other owners on this!

Added some videos as well to explain (note not all videos are mine).

Hi my two cents here (still waiting for my truck, so cannot verify issue)
I would have replaced the wipers before replacing the motor

I did replace the wipers multiple times with different brands/styles and had the same result. The rain-x blades did the best but ultimately the issue was still there.

Normal to me and I don’t lose sleep over it
I also thought it was a normal operation and I like it that it's ready when in use but parks at the extreme bottom when it's not in use. But, I agree that it should "park" every time the wiper operates in the Intermittent mode.

Mine does this 2. I find it annoying because it’s distracting (the sound it makes is distracting)

At the dealer now getting the recall done, of course they cannot replicate this issue...

I'm going to file a complaint with NHTSA since not properly wiping the windshield is a safety issue. I imagine if they received enough complaints Ford would figure out a fix for it.
