The major issue with ford Ranger front end compared to the maverick , 150 is how minimalistic it looks. For me the front end is the most important feature in the looks department

Hi everyone,

I had an order placed in October and I am feeling depressed. Feeling like I'm losing hope. Luckily I am in no rush, riding out the last year of my Prius lease but now I'm starting to think it's just not gonna happen.

Curious if anyone knows if Rangers are seeing the same issue as far as wait times on orders. Originally I really wanted the hybrid but now I'm thinking I could go without it. My commute is really minimal and I don't do a lot of driving.

Been tossing around the idea of placing an order for a Ranger or at least reaching out to my dealer.

Anyone else in the same boat?
My dealers are loaded with rangers.. mpls and st.paul.

These really are completely different vehicles. The Ranger is a product of its time: it has some of the advantages of a big truck (looks, high driving height, configurability, sturdiness) and most all of the disadvantages of a big truck (poor fuel economy, high purchase price, higher maintenance costs, harsh ride, maneuvers/parks/visibility like a big truck). And for that you also get a small bed.

What's wonderful about the Maverick Hybrid, and what has caused the sensation surrounding it, is that it addresses so many of the big truck short comings by essentially merging small crossover drivability and hybrid economics with a mini "big truck" look. On top of that Ford went overboard on the value proposition: what you get on the Mav Hybrid in terms of fuel economy (we're averaging 48mpg), utility, low maintenance costs, and a very quiet cabin (the anti-civic!) is shocking at the retail price point, or even $10K above it.

So it's not really a decision--more of an alignment of your needs: if you want a "real truck" feel get the Ranger or an F-150. If you want an errand runner that is super economical, easy to maneuver, can park anywhere, easy/comfortable to get in/out of, fun to drive, looks nothing like the ubiquitous egg-like EV/Hybrid crossovers but looks like a "mini" real truck--get the Mav Hybrid.

That is partially true, it depends how you spec out your Maverick. A base model Maverick XL 2.0L ecoboost AWD with the 4k tow package on a Maverick is for all practical purposes equally functional to a base model Ranger XL. Key difference here is drivetrain with the Maverick being an AWD and Ranger being a 4 x 2 whether that is FWD or RWD I don't know. They tow about the same 4k for a Maverick vs 3.5K for a Ranger.

Price wise they are in the same ballpark also for MSRP the 2022 Ranger XL with 4 x 2 and supercab will run $27210 and the 2022 Maverick XL w/4k tow package and 2.0L ecoboost and AWD is $25540. This doesn't include any add ons on like Copilot360 or other options.

In this case there is absolutely nothing a Maverick can't do functionally that a Ranger can even with the smaller bed.

To get a 4 x 4 Ranger to make the drivetrains roughly equivalent and give the Ranger the edge on functionality is going to run an extra $3855 and bump the MSRP up to $31065.

The next key difference and probably the biggest deciding factor is MPG using the EPA estimates. The Maverick 2.0L with AWD and 4k tow is 25 combined, 22 city and 29 hwy. The Ranger with a 4 x 2 drive is 23 combined, 21 city and 26 hwy. The 4 x 4 base Ranger XL drops to 21 combined, 19 hwy and 24 hwy.

To me it is a nobrainer here and you go with the Maverick as configured here in this case even if you have to pay about 2k more on ADM if you have to have it right away. The fuel economy difference justifies the decision.

To the OP question since they want a hybrid the sideways direction to go if the truck bed is not absolutely necessary is to a Ford Escape since anything else is not going to get near the MPG as the hybrid Maverick. They also only tow 2k so it is roughly equivalent functionality wise. Only issue is the Ford Escape hybrid starts at $29920. That leads back to the Maverick as the best option if they can wait out the delivery.

I only addressed the Maverick Hybrid which is what the OP had ordered/is waiting for. The ECOboost Mav main advantage being lower entry cost for a real 4X4 pickup--about a $9K difference (~33%) the way I spec'd mine.

I know older thread, but I was able to purchase a 2022 Ranger XLT as it rolled off the truck without ordering or reserving. (At MSRP,no fees). So the Ranger is starting to become accessible here in Florida. For now anyway. Not sure about California.

I would wait it out until I heard something especially since your order is a Hybrid (big resale value).

You really don't wanna pass up that Hybrid especially here in CA. If they say they're gonna charge you a markup or if they want to push it to 2023, then cancel and either re-order a 2023 model or get a Ranger.
