Yall with ecoboost engines should be changing it more often than recommended.
Our 5 month old Ecoboost has 3700 miles on and the monitor says 68% left.maybe it's different driving style?
Happy I seen this post. 7 months and 9000 miles. I better get an oil change soon.
I took possession of my Ecoboost in Feb 22,2023 I bought it for a daily driver and I drive it a lot 7months later and three oil changes I have 11835 miles on it, another oil change coming up at 15000 first oil change was at 3000 for brake in again at 5000 then another change at 10000 now I can start oil changes at ever 5-7000 mile I'll probably stay at every 5000. I really like the maverick 2.0 Ecoboost with the XLT Tremor package.

Wow...

I have 5300 on my truck and I javelin had 3 oil changes since delivery on 26 Nov 2022.

Some of you will be complaining in the future with the lack of basic maintenance you failed to perform.

Old saying, just cause you can doesn't mean you should.
No I won't.

I have changed my oil exactly once since I took delivery 12/13/2021. It was at the one year mark.

When I sold my 2022 Maverick to Carvana with 9,269 miles it still had 24% oil life remaining and oil change wasn't due for another 3+ months.

I don't do excessive, unnecessary and premature oil changes. I follow Fords Maintenance schedule via the Oil Life monitor. Did the same with my 2015 Honda Fit that I had for 7 years.

3 oil changes in 5300 miles is very excessive. That is one oil change every 1767 miles.

I will also go by Ford's recommendation of 5000 miles,even if the monitor says 50% left. I have a classic car that I change oil once a year,prolly 500 -600 miles,but I figure it's cheap maintenance.

First one was after 1k miles to remove all the glitter from break in. Then once every 3 months.

Like I said when the manufacturer says you can, doesn't mean you should.

Short trips is excessive on oil as you either idol to get engine up to operating temperature, or you do not allow engine to get up to operating temperature.

The oil life monitor isn't nothing more than a time distance calculator. It does not analyze the oil.

Like I said, some of you are going to regret going a year or 10k miles on oil change intervals. Especially if you plan on keeping your Maverick long term.

That is a thing of the past and not necessary in modern vehicles.

Then once every 3 months.
Also a thing from olden times and way too frequent for modern vehicles.

The oil life monitor isn't nothing more than a time distance calculator. It does not analyze the oil.
You are very wrong about what the oil life monitor measures.

Oil Life Monitoring Systems

So how does the system know when it's time for a change? Electronic sensors throughout the drivetrain send information about engine revolutions, temperature and driving time to the car's computer. The data is run through a mathematical algorithm that predicts when the oil will begin to degrade. The light comes on well in advance, giving the owner time to get the car serviced.

Oil life monitoring systems have been around for several decades. They were introduced in General Motors vehicles in the late 1980s and have been phased in slowly, said Matt Snider, project engineer in GM's Fuels and Lubricants Group. "We are very confident in the accuracy of the system," he said. The average recommendation from the system for GM vehicles is 8,500 miles, Snider said. He said that the longest oil change interval he was personally aware of was 17,000 miles in a colleague's car. For 2010 vehicles, 14 of 35 manufacturers use oil life monitoring systems.

Real-World Evidence
The oil life monitoring system in a 2007 Honda Fit Sport owned by an Edmunds.com editor signaled for an oil change at 5,500 miles, due to a lot of around-town driving. Later, under highway conditions, the system (which Honda calls a "maintenance minder") came on at 7,600 miles. Clearly, the system had detected different driving conditions and adjusted accordingly.

When we had the oil changed, we captured a sample and sent it to Blackstone Laboratories. Showing the conservative nature of the oil life sensors, the analysis showed the oil had at least 2,000 miles of life left in it.

A long-term 2008 Pontiac G8 GT driven by Edmunds went 13,000 miles before the monitoring system indicated the need for an oil change. We also sent a sample of that oil to a lab for analysis. The result: The oil could actually have safely delivered at least another 2,000 miles of service. "With an oil life system, we can use the software to tailor an oil drain interval to the behavior of a certain customer," Snider said.

Freed From the Schedules
Perhaps the best thing about oil life monitoring systems is that they free car owners from the confusing exercise of slotting themselves in the normal or severe driving schedules listed in the owner's manual. Severe conditions are described differently by various carmakers, but some "severe" conditions that they frequently cite are driving in stop-and-go traffic, towing, excessive idling and driving in the mountains.

In many cases, quick-oil-change outlets and dealerships' service departments encourage frequent oil changes by claiming that every driver falls in the severe category. This begs the question: Why have a normal category at all? Oil life monitoring systems put an end to the debate by reacting to how you actually drive.

Like I said, some of you are going to regret going a year or 10k miles on oil change intervals.

Especially if you plan on keeping your Maverick long term.
Again you state inaccurate information from the past and post incorrect conclusions.

We have over 21 years of experience with oil life monitoring systems. 7 years in a 2015 Honda Fit Ex and 14+ years in a 2009 Honda CR-V Ex (which is still owned). We changed the oil when the system told us to or at the 1 year interval.

We have had no issues or any regrets by following the oil life monitor.

We have however had less costly service by not doing excessive or unnecessary oil changes.

And straight from Ford themselves, going all the way back to MY 2011:

How does it work?

People do different types of driving and IOLM personalises your Ford’s Oil and Oil Filter replacement by the way you drive, to help keep your vehicle performing efficiently, year after year. IOLM uses the data from your vehicle’s engine performance and monitors the operating conditions. It even takes your driving habits into account. These include towing, off-road driving, extended idling or low speed intervals. The more stress you place on your vehicle, the shorter the time between oil replacement services, which support your vehicle’s health.

Break in is real. It is a machine, anyone knows the machining process is not 100% precise, and there will be metal on metal contact which will result in metal being removed until the clearences are adjusted by running. This puts metal into the oil. If there was no brake in process why does Ford put oil with brake in additives in the motor at the factory?

Why has multiple people on thus forum reported the first oil change looking like it has glitter in it?

Science and facts are hard for some, I understand that.

It's your vehicle do what you wish. Just make sure you disclose how well maintained your vehicle is to the next buyer.

Wow some people get really bonkers over oil changes.
I had a E320 that I drove to 374k. Changed the oil every 10,000 my current 2007 328 I change every 10 k has 224k on it. I also have an 2012 Avalon that I change every 10 k. 232k on the odometer. My 2023 Mav hybrid has 9700 on it and it’s telling me it has 39% oil life left. I am sorry I don’t see a need to change the oil 3 times every 5000 miles. I also don’t follow the directions on the shampoo bottle to wash rinse and repeat and the world has not come to an end yet. But hey to each their own. You bought yours and you can do what you want. But hey thank you very much I love the quarterly dividends I get on my XOM shares. Keep buying that oil!

Did you have that oil analysed? I’ll bet you didn’t, so you have no idea what the “glitter” level was.

Nah… pics, or it didn’t happen.
Guess all the others who reported the same are liars and they didn't see it either.

You're a funny little man.

Here is my Ranger at 2,300 miles. I'll be changing the Maverick's initial oil at 2,000 miles. I will send off for sampling. I wanted to get the break-in wear metals out and see the condition of the oil. It thinned out enough for me to know I probably won't run this oil. I did replace with OEM oil and will drain/sample at the same mileage interval and likely go to a ester based oil and change every 5k miles.

I've built enough motors... I ALWAYS expect glitter on a new engine. If you're really arguing this, you're probably not a car-guy, which is fine. But some of us know better.
