I drive a manual transmission Tacoma daily and only drive my wife's Mav on weekends. I struggle with that dial. I think it's because I'm used to the feel of which way a lever should go vs actually looking at it. I have to look at that dial position but I can feel the shifter position in my rig.
That’s funny, I’m the exact opposite. I’ve only driven manuals as a daily driver for the past 32 years. When I get in an auto with the shift lever in the console, I have a habit of shifting from reverse to park thinking I’m going into 1st. The dial is so much different, it is easier for me to get use to. I may be one of the few that prefer the dial.

I don’t like it, my son’s Fusion Sport and our old 300C both have/had stops incorporated.
How much friggen money did Ford save by omitting stops on the damn thing.
Spins like a knob on a shite house door😔

Over the years I have driven cars with all sorts of shifter set ups. Early 60's Chrysler's products with push buttons on the dash along with a dash mounted park lever were among the strangest I encountered.

Four speed manual column shifter on a 1962 Mercedes was a bit different. I bet a lot people would have a problem driving that today.

I'm waiting for someone to modify it for those cool new extended shifters that all the Gymkhana enthusiasts use

I can see it happening, somehow...

The most common thing I find myself doing is when I go to reverse from drive, I twist the dial to the right instead of left. I'm so used to twisting right for most of my inputs.

If they made it more rounded, squishy and put a prominent push button in the middle of it it'd probably go over much better with the male crowd. Guys couldn't keep their hands off it. Twisting that thing all over the place.

I once drove a Toyota Hilux with 4 on the column. I was young and it was just a hot, slow little truck with the blinkers on the front fenders. 😳 Didn’t seem to catch on in the good old USA. Didn’t care for Vertigate shifters either. 😔

Look first. Then shift. There, that wasn't so hard.
Can you imagine the complaints we'd hear if Ford built the Maverick with only a manual transmission? You mean I have to coordinate accelerator, clutch, and shifter simultaneously? Couldn't they invent something simplier?
Take my money now because I think that’s the only way this truck could be more fun to drive!

Do you have a suggestion for the other crowd that is majority female?

Also coming from 20 years of mostly manuals... the dial is so easy for me.

It's odd to me how one of the main complaints I see about the dial is you have to look at it to pay attention to what gear you're going into. I don't see how that's any different than any other gear lever. Our explorer has a traditional gear lever. My routine since the day I first learned to drive was to put my foot on the brake, look down at the center console to make sure I'm going into the right gear, shift, then drive.

A traditional lever and the dial are basically the same in terms of how I drive. It literally doesn't change a single thing in terms of how you operate the vehicle.
