For the record, betamax was far higher image quality than VHS. Beta was the broadcast standard for decades. It's actually unfortunate that VHS won out for home use.
Damn....you said it before I did. 😣
I was just about to post the same thing. Betamax was the better format and product but was much more expensive and it ultimately lost to VHS.

And Windows ME was really just a newly polished Windows 98. Now Windows Vista, that was an abomination.

My complaint is that it isn't locked like the Explorer. The Explorer has thicker notches and you can tell when you got setting to setting and will not let you go further. I can spin the Maverick shifter like a top....
^^ This ^^

Would be nice if the detents were more noticeable to know when you get to a new selection, and hard end stops would keep from over spinning.
i don't mind the rotary shifter and I can see why manufacturers have to started to use them more frequently on new models. But I agree that Ford could have done a better job with the Maverick's rotary shifter. As mentioned above the notches are barely noticeable and in addition to that it spins continuously.

My wife has a 2022 Edge and that rotary shifter has much much more noticeable detents and it has hard stops at Park & Drive, so you can't keep rotating right past Drive or left past Park. It's more convenient because if you want to go to Park or Drive you just rotate it quickly until it stops. When I first got my Maverick I thought there was something wrong with the rotary shift dial because it didn't have hard stops like the Edge. Not sure why Ford doesn't use the same set up on the Maverick.

So I keep telling myself that I have to get used to it.

I don’t see any advantage at all other than making the shifter more out-of-the-way.

I would definitely prefer a column mount handle or consul mounted shifter, but I got what I got, and I will just have to get used to it.

if Ford was really trying to “save space”, why didn’t they give all models keyless ignition? I really miss that, and can’t figure out why Ford did that.

I also miss “dual climate control” like my near entry Kia provided, but I guess that I get that.

I have to laugh at all of the negative comments on the shift dial, reminds me of when electric windows came out and everybody said they will never last and that cranks were positive and reliable ................................... guess what ...... LOL

I have to wholeheartedly disagree about a console shifter being better. I'll take a rotary shifter over a console shifter any day. I learned to drive in the early 90's when console shifters were the norm and they were the absolute worst design. I'm glad they are mostly extinct today.

It was reported when the truck was first released that things like SiriuxXM and keyless ignition were only available on the Lariat due to the chip shortage. The same reason they removed the climate control knobs with the digital temp readout halfway through the 2022 model year. I have a feeling that keyless ignition and satellite radio will be offered on more models when they do the mid cycle refresh of the Maverick.

No disrespect intended. Like I said, I’ll just have to get used to it. I am still having to look at the knob whenever I need to change it (unlike a column or console shifter), but that’s just me, and I will get used to it wondering why all cars don’t have it!

I love the rotary shifter. And I read on this site the best technique- with the 'spin without even looking'. It's great and takes up no space. From R to Drive you just flick it. From Drive to park you flick it the other direction. No need to worry about end spot as long as you do half a turn or so. It's the easiest thing ever

In my opinion toyota implementation in prius is real "no looking".
it will be much better if ford place "P" on "L" spot, then flick it left - revers, flick it right - drive, hit center for park or just shut off the car.

I have a rotary shifter in my Niro, but instead of going from P to R, then N, and then D, it only turns one notch left or right. To put it in park, you press the button in the center of the dial. To take it out of park, your turn it left for reverse, or right to put it in Drive. Neutral is in the middle.

I've pushed the center button a couple of times now since getting my Maverick, but thankfully that annoying display popup alerted me to my snafu.
