Not a fan of the dial shifter. I would've much preferred a shifter on the steering column or a regular center console shifter like the Bronco. I find if I'm trying to quickly shift, I either over shift or under shift and miss the spot I was trying to land on.

I like the rotary shifter. It works fine, takes up less space than most other shifters, and is more difficult to accidentally knock into a different position

Parents have a Maverick. I have a Bandit. The Bandit is faster.

I have successfully unbuckled, at a stop, put the Maverick in P manually or let it do it automatically by opening the door, yes door ajar pops up though my door is still a door not a jar, opened said door, turned the knob to either R or D and moved the vehicle.
Right. All those extra steps - that aren't 'foot on brake, put in reverse, open door, look back, ease off brake, move' - I would like a version without.

...and I'd like to have the gear selector closer to the height of the center arm rest...but I assume that costs more than coding.

I think I saw it in the manual (but it might have been on this site).

What actually gets me is the failure to release the parking brake when putting in gear; I've long been used to this on my Cadillacs and on the Crown Victoria before that. (Although Cadillac releases in both R & D, while the CV only did it in forward. So I became accustomed to putting the car in reverse by three to the right to park, than two to the left to reverse. More than twenty years later, I still occasionally notice myself doing this with a column shifter!)
So looking at the PID for amount of accelerator pedal required to break the brake hold, in Normal mode.
They get about 153 PSI from the EBrake Booster to each wheel, except of course the EPB hold.

Hill Assist - I couldn't carefully get my foot to the Go pedal smoothly enough to release before it auto-released after few seconds. I could beat it to the punch, but was also punching the pedal.
Auto Hold - saw 4% Go pedal press to release it.
EPB hold - saw 3.5% pedal press to release it.

I'm guessing other modes with relaxed or tightened Go pedal response might be a different %.

So to your issue of the EPB not auto-releasing after it auto-enabled it - just gently tap that Go pedal.
Unless on a gravel drive hill!

to be clear, the vehicles I'm talking about are not autoreleasing a hold, but rather releasing the parking brake itself when the transmission is placed in gear no throttle required.

And the Cadillacs tend to not even have a manual parking brake release lever! however, there is a small lever on the parking brake pedal assembly that can release it--but be very careful--I've bruised my knuckles using it!

And since it's vacuum operated, it has a tendency to fail as they age. grr.

Sorry to be late to the chat but I just experienced something today with the shifter and thought I'd look for chats already talking about it rather than starting another 😉 so I went to pick up my phone and dropped it onto the shifter. Instantly I felt the power shut down. At first I didn't know what had happened but looking at the dash I realized it had slipped me into Neutral! Shut down cruise control and all. I slowed up a little and slipped it back to drive. I just thought that was odd. No fail safe on these shifters while driving? Will it throw me into Reverse if something or someone hits it to hard? 🤷‍♂️

I recall someone posting, who had the complaint of their knee/leg while driving moving it - Park or Reverse was ignored at speed. I thought someone with dog comment on same thing.
System does fail safe.
Like releasing the EPB if you leave it on and start to move - not going to let you burn up the back brakes possibly.

Neutral doesn't surprise me - that could be an emergency tactic for runaway engine.
Outta gear then turn engine off.

Hmmm - never felt the non-powered steering or brakes like I'd normally test at some point.

Ok, good difference then.

In fact - this is kinda opposite.
I'd think for safety - auto-release the EPB when you go into Reverse/Drive which requires foot on brake as you describe would be better.
Instead, this system makes you push the gas lightly. But I could see that being done overboard with a jamb and a take-off.

ETA: I finally had a VERY steep hill I was backing up, foot off Go pedal it slipped back down actually after the couple seconds of Hill-Assist, until I gunned it more.
When I slipped into Park with foot on brake - it did NOT auto-enable EPB.
I sure did manually though.

So not sure why your 24 Lariat is different than my 24 XLT in that matter.

It's funny that several people in a lightning forums are moving to the rotary shifter, and people here complain about having it.

So looking at the PID for amount of accelerator pedal required to break the brake hold, in Normal mode.
Are you using car scanner to get the PID data?

From a practicality/functionality standpoint, the dial shifter is great. Sure, it doesn't feel solid or look luxurious, but it works, and works quickly & easily. The console shifters in my F150 & Bronco feel solid & look nice, but from an everyday functionality standpoint, I prefer the dial. It's perfect for the Mav. 🤠 (My Mach-E also has a dial shifter.)

I don't have an issue with it. There are several threads already on this issue. Just a guess some don't like change, even if it's good. The author of the article even states he only drove a Maverick for 600 miles. Just a guess but doubt if he even tried to get use to it.

Two things I like not having it on the steering column and I like that it's not sticking up in the center console. That being said I miss a split bench seat more than anything. It was nice having the option to have her sit by me, or in her own space.

All in all I like or don't have an issue with the rotary shifter.
YES!!!! All the above I hate bucket seats they restrain you from moving when on a long trip and like you mentioned they lock occupants away from one and other. I think bucket seats are a safety hazard.
