The RIP in the title may be premature.

Even if the insurance company totals them they will likely be cleaned up and fixed(more or less, probably less) and resold with a salvage title and there are apparently ways to move cars between states to get a salvaged title cleaned up.

Be very careful with buying any used car anytime in the near future. Even if you are not in Florida it is very easy to ship cars around the country to areas where people may not be expecting flood damaged cars.

On a macro level there could have been tens of thousands of cars destroyed which people will need to replace. That surge in demand could make the car markets even worse.

There are people nearly 50 miles from the coast, and thus not in any evacuation zones, that got over 16 inches of rain. I live on a ridge and even our neighborhood would have issues with flooded garages if 16 inches of rain fell in 24 hours. Let's not bash the OP for decisions you weren't in the position to make.

I hope the OP and his family are otherwise okay. Trucks are replaceable.

Yep….hard to know what to do sometimes.
I live in an area that was hit by Harvey back in ’17. We got 60”+ over 3 days…damn storm stopped moving and just sat on us.. Freaking insane. People were launching boots on at the off ramps of the highways to rescue people.

I sure it sucks for the OP, but it sounds like he is safe….and that is what matters.

think about this guy and his P1

Sorry to hear. I am bold enough I'd buy the salvage on that. Take interior out clean and dry and wash / oil the underside if the engine didn't get full of water.

I stayed at home in metro Houston through Harvey. I get it. Especially when you live in hurricane prone areas its hard to know when the freakoutery by the talking heads is real vs noise.

Sorry to OP, but also seems like if it didn't get started while in the water it may be salvageable.

gte105u -- I too live in Houston and we had 47" of rain at my house (NW Houston) during Hurricane Harvey back in 2017...no house flooding but I was clearing street/storm drains for almost 2 days straight.

Yes I live about 70 miles from the West Coast of Florida and we got 17 inches of rain in one day! My neighborhood is up high but I know that thousands of people in the inland counties are dealing with massive ongoing flooding from Ian. I just feel fortunate that none of my Oak trees came down on top of the house!

Sorry to see that. While it's not much water inside, just imagine all the wiring outside and under the vehicle which sat in this water for hours on end. That alone leads to problems, and it can be a lot of them down the road when it dries out and those harnesses corrode inside. We've had a car in our shop numerous times, and now for months, for electrical repairs and now harness replacement due to a flood history.

Just got the Maverick in August loved it, only had 1280 miles so sad!
I don't think it's totaled. May need new interior (carpet, maybe seats etc) and a good power washing, but will be up and running again!
