REQUEST - Disable steering wheel nag

If Ford wrote code that would allow end users to disable their federally require safety features with a simple software configuration change, they would end up with millions in fines by the federal government.
However, this system can be defeated by weights:

I have used one of these in my Tesla for over 100k miles without incident. Could it be used to unsafely to take a nap or watch YouTube while not watching the road? Yes it could. Do I trust AI with my life? No I don’t. I find it to be very pleasant to be able to drive 300 miles of perfectly flat and straight I5 through the Central Valley of California without having to jiggle the steeeing wheel every 30 seconds. I recently did the drive in my Maverick to go from SoCal to SW Oregon to pick up a motorcycle. 1700 miles in 2 days. That means I had to jiggle the steering wheel 3,400 times in those two days. Was that annoying? Very much so. Would I have driven the vehicle any more recklessly if that nag disappeared? Nope. Like I said, I’ve already done over 100k miles with one of these devices.

It's already being done - autonomous cars are here. Go take a hands free drive in Waymo in Phoenix or Los Angeles. What about SuperCruise or BlueCruise? Both hands free driving on highways.

I think it unfair to label those who disagree with you as being "stupid". You brought up a highly controversial issue which by definition is going to generate pro and con opinions, and given the safety aspect, those opinions can be charged. Lane centering + adaptive cruise on the maverick does the same thing that autopilot on the Tesla does.
lane centering on the maverick fails when facing into the sunrise/sunset or when the lane markers are faded, or painted an incorrect color, like black lane markers, for example. My Tesla fails at those same tasks and you have to take over steering. The lane centering in the maverick is about 90% as good as what my Tesla does. And as far as technology and price goes, a new $34,990 Tesla model 3 long range has better autopilot software and hardware than my used model S does. Is it fair to compare my $38,000 2024 FX4 4K Lariat to a cheap Tesla? Yup absolutely. You’re on an awefully high horse for having absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.

The original request is valid. My Explorer is very aggressive about the notifications to the point that 90% of the time I get the notice, both hands were firmly on the steering wheel. I would love for a way to adjust the sensitivity. Fortunately, the Maverick's steering wheel seems tighter and so I rarely get the warning driving it, though it will happen.

But FORD never touted this as LANE KEEPING....., I think it says Lane Keeping ASSIST. They are not equipped like a TESLA and are by no stretch of the imagination equipped with BlueCruise. Guess I am OLD. Ill accept that I can read and comprehend...... I actually LIKE driving. Not playing around with crap that is distracting me from driving. I do like the ACC. But that is just cause of idiots that cant use a standard Cruise Control and cant keep a constant speed. So If what I said was Wrong.......... Please try to re-enlighten me again.

That's Lane Keeping, Not the same thing as Lane centering.

Comma.ai and bluecruise have a camera that makes sure you are keeping your attention to the road. Lane centering instead uses lack of resistance on the wheel to detect it. Even if you could disable the alert, comma.ai and blue cruise have the camera so they are completely different systems. Even the Tesla makes you watch the road or it will yell at you.

That’s a pretty intense level of comparing apples to oranges. Sure, there are plenty of autonomous cars on the roads in those cities (I live in LA and don’t love this fact…but that’s mostly just a personal preference thing). And sure, there are plenty of Level 2 systems like Super Cruise and BlueCruise plus the sort of Level 2.5 of Tesla FSD. The Maverick is *none of these.* There is no setting change, hidden or otherwise, that is going to give this truck the LiDAR sensors these systems need (Tesla’s hubris there aside). There is no setting change that is going to give this truck the processing capacity to make the sorts of dynamic decisions Level 2+ systems make. There is no setting change that is going to make this truck’s capabilities here anything more than very basic lane keeping assistance and RADAR-driven adaptive cruise control.

People aren’t being “harsh and…stupid.” They’re pointing out that what you want to do is dangerous and ill-advised. The warning to keep your hands on the wheel is there because trying to let this truck drive itself not only puts yourself in danger, *it puts everyone on or near the road around you in danger.*

I am asking some of more tech savvy with FORscan to see if there is a way to disable the steering wheel nag to keep your hands on the wheel while using lane centering. I know the Comma OpenPilot uses a man in the middle scenario to keep the notice from coming up but, I would really like to disable this natively

I have the same question. I keep both hands on my wheel when driving always, but I am more comfortable and have better steering control when I place my hands higher on the wheel. The sensors are located below my hands and, hence, I keep getting the nag. I have less control and less comfort when I place my hands on the sensors. So, is there a simple way I can disable the nag without disabling the lane keeping feature?

Learned something new. I always thought it looked at steering resistance as the mode of determining if you were holding it. Like going straight on a straight road with no difference of input, requires a wheel jiggle to satisfy the nag.

Lane Keeping Aid
The lane keeping aid provides steering torque to help the driver keep the vehicle in the lane when a lane departure is detected.
The IPMA sends the road curvature and calculated steering angle messages to the PSCM.
The PSCM uses these messages to calculate and generate the intervention torque.

Hands-Off Warning
When the lane keeping aid is active, the PSCM continuously monitors the torque sensor in the EPAS system to determine if a hand is on the steering wheel and sends the data to the IPMA.
If the IPMA detects that the driver's hands are off the wheel for more than a few seconds, the hands-off warning is generated

Adaptive Cruise Control - System Alerts and Automatic Cancellation
You must keep your hands on the steering wheel at all times.
When the system is active and detects no steering activity for a certain period of time, the system alerts you to put your hands on the steering wheel. If you do not react to the warnings the system cancels and slows your vehicle down to idle speeds while maintaining steering control.
The system also alerts you if your vehicle crosses lane markings without detected steering activity.
Note: The system may detect a light grip or touch on the steering wheel as hands-off driving.
