So can you use a old style battery in place of new style.just wondering incase you couldn't get the newer style would truck get you home.

A 12v automotive battery is a 12v automotive battery. Hell, you could even use something like a LiFePO4 if you needed to. I would not long term, but a 12-14v battery with enough amp hours is a 12-14v battery with enough amp hours. It is either going to crank or not. Very binary situation.

OP is asking about an ecoboost model (according to their profile). It's located under the hood so a regular 12V battery will work as long as it fits in the box and has clearance for the hood to close. Polarity of the post would probably have to also match up with the original. It does start the engine and run the accessories just like any other gas vehicle. Note: this would be a short term "get back home" solution. You should get the correct battery for your truck once you're able.

Not sure what you mean by old style battery? Do you mean a vintage,unsealed battery like they make for antique cars? Automotive battery's have been sealed for over 50 years, although you can still order period correct batteries for antiques.

Hybrid owners can only add a battery that fits under the rear seat in the prepared space unless they wanna do some crazy wiring which I wouldn’t recommend that might be warranty voiding in a hybrid. Just get a good quality AGM battery
if it’s been determined that it’s a crap one because they’re smaller and they’re not really that great. I’ve had no trouble with mine, but in the Arizona heat, I expected it to go within a year or two and I’ll get a nice AGM replacement.

A flooded lead/acid battery would surely work fine but probably not last as long as an AGM. The bigger problem, for hybrids at least, is the physical size of the battery. It's under the seat and "should" (theoretically) accept a wide variety of sizes, but Ford closed that door hard. I believe the stock battery is an H4 size, aka BCI group 140R with the positive terminal on the right (both facing you) and a vent port on the left (externally vented because it's inside the truck). A T4 (99R) is shorter and would also fit, but has lower CCA of course. The space is pretty darn tight, and for no good reason. Ford might be trying to get you to buy Motorcraft, made in a 3rd world country.

For the eco boost, an AGM battery is neceasary. The charging voltage is significantly higher, over a volt more, than for a flooded cell battery and Ford designs the charging system for the AGM. You may or may not be able to change the charging voltage with Forscan, but don't count on it. AGM costs more, oh well.
