Well after much back and forth in my head I decided to get my, new to me, 2024 Maverick hybrid undercoated because I plan on keeping this truck. The salesman is a friend of mine and he assured me all shielding will be removed to enable them to spray the wheel wells and undercarriage which by the way still looks pristine. I am really pleased with the truck so far and am enjoying the Maverick Truck Club.

Agghhh! Don't do it!

Crap like Resitall is a hard undercoating material, which only works for a couple of years. After that, any little chip in the surface allows water and salt to penetrate underneath and sit there and slowly eat the steel, causing more damage than not undercoating it at all. If that's all the dealer has then they don;t know anything about surface protection, so stay away from their markups and sales gimmicks. Instead, a creeping liquid that requires an update yearly is far better. The aftermarket is also cheaper without the dealer markups added. I use Krown, but there are many others that will spray a creeping solution to get into areas that cannot otherwise be sprayed and seals stone hits trivially.

I agree, the creeping lanolin based undercoatings work great. I use Fluid Film and have been satisfied with it living here in the rust belt. Just need to touch it up yearly. I am sure there are other similar products that work great too but definitely have had bad experiences with the hard coat rust proofing.

Per the internet, so it must be true.....

Key details about ResistAll undercoating:
  • Purpose: It acts as a barrier against rust, moisture, and debris on automotive, truck, and trailer underbodies.
    • Benefits: In addition to corrosion protection, it helps reduce road noise and insulates against heat and cold.
    • Application: It is a professional-grade, quick-dry, solvent-free solution applied to the undercarriage.
    • Concerns: As a rubberized coating, it can potentially dry out, crack, and trap moisture if not applied properly or if neglected.
    • Alternatives: Some users prefer oil or wax-based coatings like Fluid Film or Krown for better, long-term rust prevention.
For maximum effectiveness, the product should be applied by professionals when the vehicle is new

Thank you for the concern. I read all the pros and cons also. I'm taking in to consideration the fact that I don't get around like I used to. Don't have a desire to crawl around underneath the truck. I'll be another guinea pig, lol.

Don't do it(number 3)!!!
Find an independent garage/undercoater who uses one of the aforementioned lanolin products. Being a guinea pig has its drawbacks.

I live in a cold climate.
A friend of mine owns a $30,000 ice house on a trailer for ice fishing. The frame had the rubberized coating on it. salty water from the roads got trapped between the coating and frame and rusted the frame to the point where the trailer was not drivable and the repairs would have been more than the value of the trailer. He had to scrap the whole thing.

I had mine done by the dealership and it's checked once a year and reapplied free of charge if necessary. If there is any rust then it's fixed free as long as I own the vehicle. They also did rust inhibitor in the doors maybe? I don't know, didn't pay much attention. But they did like 5 different things to it.

Sounds like you have a great dealer! They certainly are not all bad.

They are good, but full disclosure is that my wife works at the corporate office for the owners of the dealerships. So we do get pretty good treatment. I'm not saying they don't treat others well, I just sometimes wonder if we get that extra because she works for them, you know what I mean?

Go with "Krown" or "Rust Chek" applications. They use the fluidic film process and should be reapplied annually, depending on mileage and usage. My 13 year old Silverado has it and still looks brand new! Several identical models on the road now have already lost their rocker panels & wheel wells. Sad for that to happen when you pay so much for these vehicles!

Strong recommendations not to spray rubberized undercoating, it gets nicked by rocks & then when moisture seeps in the nicks, the rubberized coating traps the moisture at the streel.

100% agree. I had an independent apply Fluid Film the second week after the truck arrived. Will plan on additional applications as needed.

I live in NY and my last vehicle died a slow, rusty death with only 45k miles on it. I vowed not to let that happen again. I had a local shop apply Fluid Film last Fall and they charged me $300. I didn't think that was terribly expensive for what you get out of it. 😬

Congrats!
Did they remove all of the wheel well shields and spray inside the doors and rocker panels? Those are the most important areas IMO.
Did you discuss what areas they would, and would not spray?
I think it is easier to get good communication and honesty from a dedicated undercoating shop, although so far I have always done mine myself.
