According to my dealer, the extended warranty does NOT cover any wear items. I'm almost certain that batteries are wear items. This would also includes brakes, filters, etc.I've yet to take delivery of my Maverick XL Hybrid, but I went bottom dollar. I figured that if you're buying a cheap truck and pile a ton of options on it, then what you end up with is an expensive cheap truck.
So with the XL with only hitch, spray in bedliner, and full size spare - with tax, tag and title - I'm at 26K to the driveway. I really don't have any options that I need to protect. What I need to find out is if the extended warranty will cover what is considered "consumables" like batteries. Then I might weigh the cost. Other than that, I will not get the extended and just go with the normal warranty.
Then you take off all emission and hybrid unique components that are already covered by 8 years warranty, there is not much left that are covered by the extended warranty.
Could you regret that you didn't buy the extended warranty later? Maybe. But in most cases buying the extended warranty is like flushing money down the drain.
EDIT:
Here is a list of items covered by 8 years hybrid component warranty:
Depending on your vehicle, electrical drivetrain system components covered by this warranty may include, and are not limited to: high-voltage battery, high-voltage battery connector, battery energy control module (BECM), on-board charger, inverter system controller (ISC), DC/DC converter, hybrid continuously variable transmission or electric driveline motor and transmission range sensor
