I've yet to take delivery of my Maverick XL Hybrid, but I went bottom dollar. I figured that if you're buying a cheap truck and pile a ton of options on it, then what you end up with is an expensive cheap truck.

So with the XL with only hitch, spray in bedliner, and full size spare - with tax, tag and title - I'm at 26K to the driveway. I really don't have any options that I need to protect. What I need to find out is if the extended warranty will cover what is considered "consumables" like batteries. Then I might weigh the cost. Other than that, I will not get the extended and just go with the normal warranty.
According to my dealer, the extended warranty does NOT cover any wear items. I'm almost certain that batteries are wear items. This would also includes brakes, filters, etc.

Then you take off all emission and hybrid unique components that are already covered by 8 years warranty, there is not much left that are covered by the extended warranty.

Could you regret that you didn't buy the extended warranty later? Maybe. But in most cases buying the extended warranty is like flushing money down the drain.

EDIT:

Here is a list of items covered by 8 years hybrid component warranty:

Depending on your vehicle, electrical drivetrain system components covered by this warranty may include, and are not limited to: high-voltage battery, high-voltage battery connector, battery energy control module (BECM), on-board charger, inverter system controller (ISC), DC/DC converter, hybrid continuously variable transmission or electric driveline motor and transmission range sensor

Good question, this is how I see it

"Could you regret...?" is always a risk and a stressor when we play that mind game. This will be my first "new" vehicle I have purchased since 1991. I wanted a nice truck but the geographical area I live in, Trucks are king and they do not depreciate much unless you get one 15+ years old and totally worn out.

As a recovering analytical, putting the risk/reward to paper, accepting operation & wear cost over the years, I've not convinced myself to buy extended yet. But I will allow myself the option to change my mind if I can see a clear advantage. When I go on cruises, I ALWAYS buy travel insurance. As for my new truck? Do I really need more than what Ford offers as normal warranty?

No. Might as well buy CarShield when your factory warranty expires. So they can pay for more commercial airtime. Carshield cars go farther - into debt.

The majority of electronics, wheel bearings, SRS, power steering, A/C...

Oh, and don't forget Beware: Heat Exchanger not covered under warranty. $1500 is the cost of an ESP right there.
If my heat exchanger fails outside warranty I'll just cut it out and put in a bypass for coolant, probably a $200 job. No point of replacing some badly designed part with another.

Got the extended warranty, if anything goes wrong with the electronics in a modern car, you'll be sorry without coverage. Just having to replace one of the front headlights covers 50% of the cost of the warranty. And people can say "LED lights are designed to last the life of the vehicle!" and yet I see vehicles that have factory LED lights with one that is out all the time. It's usually Ford's. :ROFLMAO:
My 2020 Transit lost half of its LED strip in one headlight. Thankfully, under warranty, as it was $1700+ labor.

I will wait until near 12 months and then buy a 10 yr (7 extra) warranty for my Maverick...just like I did on my 2017 CMax. The Maverick's Ford ESP PremiumCare warranty (plus lighting addition) is $935 for the 48k I will likely drive in 10 years. If 1 headlight goes out, I'll be ahead. And in 10 years, I expect at least that will happen. My C-Max has been trouble-free for over 5 years, but having the warranty was well worth the peace of mind.

NEVER buy it from your dealer unless your dealer is Granger, Flood, Anderson&Koch, Ziegler, or other online sellers.

I paid for the expensive 8 year warranty, only because I forgot to have the dealership take it off the contract before I signed it. I've had warranty repairs done already. I think I'll be glad I have it in the long run.

Dealer's wouldn't push extended warranties if they didn't make money off them. Warranty companies wouldn't offer warranties if they didn't make money off of them.

I don't buy extended warranties for anything.

Consumer Reports in reference to extended vehicle warranties: "extended warranties, which cost extra and which CR doesn’t recommend "

Yup it's a major revenue stream for the dealers. When I initially refused it my dealer asked for what price am I willing to pay. After refusing it again they instantly dropped the price by 25%. Still hard pass.

It's fine if people are going to the dealer for repairs anyways, because with the exorbitant price tag of repair at the dealership you might be able to justify the warranty cost. But if you work on your own truck or go to independent mechanics then you are much better off saving that money.

I wait till the factory is almost up then depending if I'm going to keep it or get a new one. I usually just get a new one. However I will be getting a Ford ESP on my 2020 Shelby when the factory expires drive train only

The finance weasel at my dealership tried to use scare tactics to get me to buy the extended warranty. He told me how much a replacement turbo would cost. I have a hybrid 😂.

I got an extended warranty through Granger. I did it because the Maverick is a Ford and I got it $50 above dealer's cost.

I have been seeing this $50 above cost line for quite some time now. Not questioning what you say, but how do you or others who say this really know that is the case????🤔🤔🤔

Anyone in Southwrn Calif willing to share how much they paid for their extended warranty or the ESP warranty after the had the car for a year or two?

Just curious so I have some leverage when I pick up my 23 Hydrid. Still undecided if I will get it at time of pickup or down the road in a year or two.
