I use the Hitchmate. Extends for use when the tailgate is down.
Caveats - do not use if prone to shin cracking. It extends beyond the bumper about 3" when folded.
Keep it locked. Everyone wants to steal it.

I clicked on the link, liked the price, and put in my shopping cart. As my usual habit I wait at least a day to cool off before ordering.

Then I came back to the post to look at the pictures and noticed it was an ECO and probable had a compact spare tire. So, I went out and look at my Hybrid. The full-size spare tire hangs down so far, the step will not retract.

Once again, my shopping cart is empty.

The Maverick needs a step on the side rear bumper for us old folks to get into the truck bed. Look at the Chevy Colorado and copy that.

Good catch. I should have added that the larger spare may obstruct the retracting. The compact has about 2" clearance. There is a version that hangs lower, but not sure how well it would work on the Maverick. Also a lot more $. https://www.heininger.biz/products/hitchmate-truckstep-xl-for-2-receiver

At home we have a little step stool I use to get in and out. If I'm out somewhere and I don't have the step stool then I sit on the tailgate, spin my legs around and stand up rather than trying to climb in from the ground.

And if added to tye Maverick I can hear it now, "the PRICE IS OUTRAGEOUS"

Just like the Hybrid owners did when the Hybrid was no longer the standard engine.

But you want Ford to go through a design process, costs money, add it, cost money, and then put it on the Maverick at a value price, yeah uh huh.

Comparing a small truck to a midsized truck like you have with the Maverick and Colorado is ridiculous. A comparison to the Colorado would be the Ranger which has the step you are wanting available, but for some reason you chose to ignore the Ranger and freely chose the Maverick.

how about $500 for a front pair of mud flaps, and $500 for the rear?

BTW, on topic, I can get in and out of my Maverick with ease. I'm not sure a step helps all that much, but a stool is easy enough for a person to bring along. the bed is so low, if you need to use a step, don't you want something to hold onto as you climb up?

I have no problem getting into bed of the Maverick with a small folding step stool.
It's getting back out of the bed that worries me, possibly missing the step stool, stepping on it off center and falling.
Sitting on a tailgate that has spray in bed liner and swinging your legs around it's pretty rough on the clothes.
For me, it's easier to get into the truck bed with the tailgate up.
I usually step on the bumper and pull myself up and then step over the tailgate into the bed.
Getting out of the truck bed. I straddle the tailgate make sure that my foot has good placement on the bumper and then continue to let myself down.
Stay safe.

You ignored the fact that the Colorado is a body on frame with a metal bumper.

How well do you think your plastic bumper is going to hold up to being stepped on constantly?

I agree this is a nice feature and noticed that Ford 'copied' it in the super duties as well as the side bed step. Santa Cruz also has it.

But the solution for our Mavericks currently is something like what @fossil already shared, or a hitch step that extends. I saw someone post that one time too. No real great option when compared to mid size/full size bed steps.
May be me you are thinking of. I took a Bully retractable(tube in a tube)hitch step and slid it inside my receiver hitch tubing on my Tacoma and bolted it in. Works like a charm. I'll go look at the wife's Mav and see if this is possible.

Never really thought of a side step on the Maverick, but that would be a great option, especially when ordering the vehicle how you want it!
