Hi all, I've been thinking about building a box for the back of my bed, and I'm curious if anyone else here has done something similar and has any ideas about it. Here are some quick mockups, not to scale because I haven't pulled any dimensions yet but it should get the idea across:
The idea is that the open side of the box would butt up against the tailgate, and the whole box could bolt on to a piece of 2x material that fits into the slot towards the back of the bed to keep it firmly in place horizontally. My main goal for this thing is to use it with a shroud as a portable darkroom for photography, but it's occurred to me that if I add some kind of latch to secure it to the tie-downs at the back of the bed that's only accessible when the tailgate is open, I could also just leave it in the truck whenever I'm not hauling lumber and have a somewhat secure closed storage section. And I could size the 2x to act as a support for plywood when it's detached from the box.
So basically if anyone's built a similar box for the rear of the bed I'd love to hear how it worked out for you and anything you'd do differently if you had to do it again. Or just if this seems like a somewhat sane idea to y'all
