The Maverick needs a step on the side rear bumper for us old folks to get into the truck bed. Look at the Chevy Colorado and copy that.
I am laughing. Before I picked up a little foldable 2 step, I was sitting on the tailgate and swinging my legs over and rolling into a stand up position. So graceful!

There is an independent company that makes these aftermarket bumpers for full size Ford Trucks. Around $2000.

When I called. They expressed no interest in making one for a Ford Maverick.

That's probably super heavy, not functional (point of bumper is to absorb light hit without breaking the vehicle), and too expensive for cheap truck buyers...

They make them for the F-150 and Raptor too.
You're right about Maverick buyers and the cost.
When I called. They acted surprised, that somebody would be interested in one for a Maverick because it's so low to the ground.

And, just what what would we do if we had one of these new giant full size pickups?! I'm 6' tall and the Maverick bed is doable but any bigger and it would be too hard. I'm pushing 70 years and the Maverick bed might be a little short but damn handy. I have a piece of 2" by 2" with a flat welded on the end that makes a nice step when Iput it in the hitch.

I am 5’10” , 200#, and the tailgate was just a little too high for me to step into. I went totally low tech: two pieces of about 6” wide x 16” long x 1” thick mushy kneeling pad foam. I put them at the end, put my knee on one, and step up on my knees, and then shuffle them around to wherever I want to go, or just stand up. You could also just use commercial gardening / kneeling pads, cut up Harbor Freight soft foam floor squares, or of course a set of knee pads. The correct length and width can sorta be wedged between the bed floor and the bottom of the side rail, in front of the rear cubbies, and they are just in the bed out of the way. A tonneau keeps them from flying out. They are also small enough to stuff under or behind the rear seat. Super low tech, and possibly cheap or free, depending what you already have.

I always have one or two milk crates in my truck bed to use as steps. Other than to wash the cab roof I rarely climb in the bed though.

I tend to sit on the tail gate then get up from there. Not always pretty but seems to work well for this old lady. We do keep a small step stool in the garage - also helps when cleaning windshield.

For those that don't have any problem with skinned up shins.... here's a shock absorbing receiver hitch step.
It may even provide you some protection in a slow speed rear end collision.

Omg YES! Did they not get into the bed when they were prototyping this thing? It was easier to get into my Dodge Ram.
