The other downside of USB is the nannies programmed into Sync make it kind of hard to browse. So I've mostly just fallen back having my music on my phone to call up via its media player and better voice recognition.

This is where drive/folder organization and/or .M3U playlists come in. But if they ever get the bluetooth working rock solid then I'd say it is a little friendlier using the phone. The other downside of USB is the nannies programmed into Sync make it kind of hard to browse. I ended up buying one of the portable CD players off Amazon. There were multiple brands and many looked exactly like the model I purchased. Prices ranged from $79.93-$179.00, but I opted for the low end in case it didn't work. I don't know who wrote the Instructions that were included, but they made no sense and I disregarded.I have a fairly large CD collection and a Dell slim portable CD / DVD-RW drive with the USB connection that I use to play CDs on my laptop, which did not come with an internal CD drive. I thought maybe I could just plug it in the USB port in the console and it would play. Nothing happened when I did that, so I read in the manual to click on the 'Audio' button on the lower left of the screen and select USB as the source. There no information referencing any external audio sources. I even clicked on the SOURCE button (what I thought was the logical place to find additional sources) but there is only AM, FM, SiriusXM & Bluetooth.
Exactly what I bought & did, you couldn't ask for an easier way to play your own tunes!I ended up buying one of the portable CD players off Amazon. Once I plugged in the USB cable, a message popped up at the top of the screen after a few seconds that indicated "Indexing USB." USB then appeared as an option listed under Sources. Works and sounds great.

yeah Janky. Mine would do two things. Lose the index on my bigger flash drives and wouldn't allow me to scroll through any list while driving......
However as another poster noted, the indexing on the Ford can be janky. It will lose the index every week or so and then it has to reindex before M3U playlists show again. So having folder organization is a good secondary method as a backup.
