Phone connectivity issue via the USB

Hi all, I have a AWD XLT. Of course it doesn't have the SYNC 3. I'm having issues with phone connectivity via the USB. My phone connection will turn off sporadically, the phone will take up to 15 to 20 seconds to connect when it does connecte and the "system" doesn't recognize the connection if the phone is connected when the truck is turned off then on again. Speaking of phones mine works fine so far , I phone w/ sync3 , but was wondering , can I get split screen between radio & gps map ?

Have you tried a different high quality cable? One of the easiest things to try and correct this. I had the same issues, it was a bad cable.

No, you either use Carplay screen or Ford radio. You can select Radio screen on the instrument cluster for limited Song info.

Anyone know if the type A usb port is only for charging, or can you put a flash drive in there loaded with MP3 music and play off the flash drive? I don't like playing off the phone as it gets interrupted every time there's a text or call or who knows what else notifications. I'd just like to load up a usb drive with music and plug it in somehow.

Yes. I have my AAWireless connected to the USB-C and a Sandisk Cruzer Fit with audio files in the USB-A port.

Both the front panel USB A and the USB C ports closest to the driver provide data transfer.

Use a different USB cable as some become intermittent from being bent near the connector going into the phone.

This was a problem for me and a new cable fixed it.

I now place my plugged in phone to the right of where they suggest so not to bend the cable near the connector.

Just to add as a general observation, USB cables are not something to skimp on when it comes to their cost. There are many very good ones but also a plethora of really crappy ones.

Me too. And the audio quality off of the USB is so much better than bluetooth audio or the radio!

Can't split-screen built in radio/SXM with Car Play as far as I can tell. I can keep listening to the built-in XM and use Carplay at once, but you have to use your phone aps if you want to split screen them.

Tried my USB loaded with MP3's from my old car in the USB A port in the Mav... worked like a champ! Thanks for the tip!
