What I don’t get is how this would ever Auto Update. There is an option for that and mine is switched on but it seems to me this would be manual only.
I'm starting to think the wifi in the Maverick is to blame. I was monitoring my router and the Mav 15 feet away was dropping the connection repeatedly. Will have to try the hotspot method next.

I have tried everything new USB flash drive
CANNOT PLAY MP3'S FROM ANY FLASH DRIVE
Made sure the USB drive was FAT32 deleted my phone added it back on did all the updates still Ford carplay or whatever it is never sees my USB What a waste I moved on
Can you tell us how you have your folder(s) of music organized on the USB and approximately how many files? Also, what is your source of MP3s? Did you rip them from CDs or buy them from someplace like the iTunes store? Just wondering if there is some DRM at play.

Many of us have had zero issues with the USB playback (except for not being able to browse and make selections when driving). There were some who reported having more than 10,000 files made the unit scan for excessive times. Mine does fine with ~5800 files. You cannot browse until it finishes scanning, but that is something you get used to. For me, it takes about 2-4 minutes to scan the USB.

Final question...Does that same USB port see your phone when plugged in to run CarPlay? There have been issues reported with the USB outlet not being connected correctly from the plug behind. Perhaps you have one that only has the charging wires connected and not the data connections.

The only other advice is to use the same exact type of USB that some others have reported using successfully. Several of us (including me) have used the SanDisk Ultra Fit with no issues.

I use the 128GB size and it has plenty of room for my collection.

Do not listen to anyone who says to use exFAT. That is absolutely not necessary for a USB thumb drive with MP3 files. The only reason you might want exFAT is to support greater than 4GB files (like a BlueRay movie rip).

thank you for replying
That is EXACTLY the flash drive I have and have tried
All I do is drag mp3 music files to the drive NO folders
I have not tried to see if the plug 'sees' my phone but it does re-charge the phone
I presume you mean when I put my phone via cable into the usb slot my phone will appear on the screen ?

If the USB "works" correctly, connecting your phone should start CarPlay or AndroidAuto if you have it setup. If that happens, then the port should be functioning properly. Another suggestion might be to put all the MP3s into one folder called Music. I actually have mine setup like this :\Music\Artist\AlbumTitle\Songs.mp3
In the root of the USB, I have about 20 playlists.

How do you make playlists to work off the Maverick?

I care very much about my Apple CarPlay. :ROFLMAO:

Continuing to have dropouts on CarPlay so today on a jaunt to the "big city" I hit up Best Buy and picked a top tier cable. Had to get it in 4' which sucked but whatever. Seems to have made a huge difference in connectivity with zero dropouts after another hour of driving.

My old cable was new, but cheap. You know the ones, 3 for 10 bucks on Amazon. I admit it. Sometimes I am my own worst enemy. I be suspecting the radio is very intolerant of these cheap cables.
I had the same experience with the cheap cables. I had dropped connections every five minutes with the cheapies. Replaced with a quality cable and no problem since. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to go cheap.

Welp, that was a PITA.

So to preface, I had auto updates and WiFi turned off. My update experience went like this:

1. Get in and start the truck
2. Navigate to the Settings-->Wifi menu
3. Turn wi-fi on
4. Have it fail to connect to the 2.4GHz band on my home wifi. Phone had 4 bars of connectivity, truck had 1.
5. Turn on Wi-Fi hotspot on my phone
6. Rescan available networks and have truck connect to my phone hotspot.
7. Truck fails to connect to phone hotspot.
8. Truck decides that it did in fact connect.
9. Enable auto updates on truck.
10. Sit and wait for truck radio to do anything.
11. Nothing happens after 5 minutes.
12. Soft reboot truck radio using power and FF button.
13. Radio reboots, navigate to auto updates menu.
14. Truck decides that it wants to update and starts downloading update.
15. Update downloads in about 10 minutes.
16. Update installs in about 8 minutes.
17. Nothing happens.
18. Decide to soft reboot radio again.
19. Radio reboots.
20. Robot lady voice startles the shit outta me.
21. Update complete :)
Potatomafia! Your post did it for me. I got joy after numerous failed attempts. The Keys for me: phone wifi hotspot, the soft reboots. Thank you and all the other contributors for your posts!

After the update it seems the random Bluetooth disconnects is resolved and CarPlay launches a lot faster. Only time will tell though.
Yep! My dongle is less problematic, and I love my dongle!

I'm glad it worked for you (y)

The process definitely is not as easy or as smooth as it could have been.

I forgot to mention that I had to disable wifi on my phone and just use the cell network (5G in my area) otherwise the update would just sit at 0% on the radio.

I brought my Maverick into the dealer today for my free first oil change. They were able to download and install the new update using FDRS so I'm good to go. Not sure why I couldn't get it to install last week.

My Ranger has never done an auto update, or found a new update when I have it search. My dad's two F-250's and mom's Escape are exactly the same. My Maverick actually did the update, but I had to tell it to. @Ford Motor Company does not accel in this department.

Dealer visit for sure. Probably a bad plug or something isn't clicked in properly on the back side. Let the dealer sort it out. Hopefully parts are not delayed.
