Rear-end collisions are the single most common type of car accident, accounting for approximately 29% of all reported traffic crashes in the United States.To be fair, most of those likely had spare tires they could've slapped on the truck and driven on, if not for the other damage. Mavericks get totaled via rear-end collisions well below the threshold of collapsing the body enough to pop the tire.
Why chance it?
When the spare tire provided is completely adequate for its intended use.
Statistically, an average driver will experience about one flat tire every three years, or roughly five flat tires in a lifetime. Roughly one in three vehicles gets a puncture each year, and tire issues account for about 27% of all roadside emergencies

You have an overactive and fearful imagination over things that COULD happen. I take it you don't ride dirt bikes or do other manly things because there is too much risk involved. What else do you carry in your purse?
