Bright side is, as well as she did today, She'll be amazing with decent All terrain sneakers
Why qualifies as decent all terrain tires to you?

I just put 235 Wildpeak AT Trails on my AWD hybrid and it rolled through 6 inches of fresh snow this morning without any slipping at all.

I had Nitto Terra Grappler G2's on old truck, was very happy with them.

Family's hunting cabin had 6" of snow dumped on it this morning. Twisty unimproved mountain roads with steep dropoffs is not how I wanted to learn how she handles in the snow, but I was pleasantly surprised how well she handled (I originally started out in Slippery mode, added 4x4 right after pic)
Other than 2 pucker moments that Id attribute to the crappy factory tires, I couldn't be happier. This truck continues to impress me.
That being said, as soon as I can afford it, Im getting better tires.

Has anyone got any good tips for digging out the "scuttle" bit between hood and screen? I don't want an iceberg in there.

Slow getting my snows on, my "ideal couple of days" last week got ruined by coming with late forecasted high winds which were of "knock it off the jack" strength, plus all the PITA of chasing down your supplies every couple mins. So missed that window, got back ones on on Monday, but got interrupted before I could do fronts and then the dark and cold set in. Maybe doing fronts today, weather forecasts have degraded to half a day accuracy if that. Yesterday was meant to be "periods of snow" with 4" of accumulation, but it was sunny most of the damn day. I had made alternate plans. Gah.

What is going on this year is part worn "craigslist" Blizzak WS90, DM V2, I thought they were 8/32 all round but turns out Iv'e got a pair of 7/32 and a pair of 9/32, putting the 7/32 on the back and crossing my fingers. (Don't want super grip on the back pushing a front end that can't steer, AWD) I think they've still got the magic pixie dust on them down to 5/32 (special ice compound) Some reviews said they were seeing 1/32 wear per 4000miles, so these might actually do me 3 years.

Going less cheap on the wife's Escape with brand new Uniroyal TigerPaw Ice and Snow 4 which was new design at end of last season. Meant to be good for slush which we see a lot of and has the new severe ice rating also.

The Continental Pro Contact TX has to be just about the worst possible tire that Ford could have picked for the XL models. But I'm sure it will be many moons before a vehicle manufacturer starts to put 3 peak rated tires on a plebeian vehicle from the factory.

An old trick from when I lived in CT.

If you know snow is forecasted, you can trim one of those pool noodles to fit and place it down in the area between the hood and windshield.

Just don't do it if you think it's going to be icy, the noodle thing will freeze in there and you'll probably be cussing trying to get it out.

I have Falken Wildpeaks on there, I bought it with 6k, I assumed they were factory. I had Nitto Terra grappler G2' s on my old truck, I'd like to go with them again
I've got 29K on my OEM Falken Wildpeak AT3W's, and while they're OK in a straight line, they are losing the ability to turn in the wet. Hoping for a mild winter, so I can put new shoes on in the spring, before my road trip season starts,,,,,

A few things to try... trim a 3mil or thicker garbage bag to be just a little wider than the slot and hold in place with the pool noodle suggested to pull out ice.

Try a leaf blower or one of the newer hand-held air dusters like the Wolfbox (forum sponser!) to blow out powdery snow.

If you need to clean it out after the fact, I'd try a bunch of ziplocks bags or reuseable hot packs filled with very warm water, just pop them in there while you clean the rest of the truck and let them melt through the snow/ice... try to clear out the drains on each side first so the melt water has somewhere to go.

Tyre Reviews dropped a new winter tire compilation comparison:

Replying to myself to bring up an issue I noticed.

I have been running into a problem getting shoes for our trucks. A lot of the snow tires have limited size selections due to the need to customize the tread patterns for each size. Our trucks don't seem to have an incredibly common shoe size so tires like the VikingContact8 aren't available in either 17" or 19" sizes that the Maverick likes when I look on TireRack.

I have the oem wild peaks and they suck in the snow. Even on regular turns around the block it would slip in the snow of about 2-3”
Blizzak soon for next year

I got Blizzaks for my 2WD hybrid from Discount Tire on some spare steelies someone sold me. They worked great last winter. Last week I drove to the top of NW Wisconsin (about 350 miles) and it was touch and go driving home in the snow with the shitty stock tires. Discount Tire swaps them for free.

I'm an eejut, got WS90 on the brain because that's what the reviews all crow about for SUVs, I got "real" truck tires, the Blizzak DM V2

Just fucked up today's window though, got to the GenX dilemma of i) Goonies never say die, vs ii) streetlamps are on, gotta come in the house. But yeah, dark sky can't see shit, so done.... plus extra research needed to get the front up...

... I appear to have bits on my truck that other ppl don't...

I was planning to go under the subframe mounting to front wishbone/suspension arm, but there's a shallow U channel across from side to side, covering them, WTF, don't see any other photos of that, and don't know what it's for.

Also my plastics seem to come real close to the pinch weld bottom and looks real easy to mess up my plastics with less than perfect placement of support. Now I figured that in behind there I could get a 2X4 edgewise, or a 2x6 flat, but only needs like a 4" chunk or you're into messing up plastics again, and could I find one???? Nope... I swear I should have all sizes of blocks and offcuts around, but they scrambled into dark corners when I went on the hunt. I gotta dig out saws and workmates and shit this evening and cut a piece to correct damn size.

ETA: Damn, that crosspiece bit is there on others, https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/2025-hybrid-awd-underside-pictures.67605/ I don't know why the pic I found a few days ago, and spent a while studying/halfass memorising, did NOT have that piece on, thought that bolt/mounting point was free and clear. Have nice "big hard rubber washers" from top of some old struts that sit around large bolts nicely and on top of the jack, that's how I did the rear. So bugger, if I had seen the right pic I would have rethunk before I thunk. Lost that pic which mislead me too, think it was reddit *hawk, spit*
