Part of the reason being an early adopter sucks, because both of those are solved on a 25+

The fathom looks like it checks a lot of boxes, and I hope it's successful so I can get one someday, but it certainly won't be the first model year, ESPECIALLY on a new category entry.
Sure. But who got a better value: a Maverick early adopter or someone buying a 2025 for $8-10k more? I don't think I'd replace my Maverick with an identical 2026 for such a price increase

Fathom Why I Would Switch From My Maverick.
Will it include chargers that are closer than 50 miles away?
Likely not.

Remember, the Fathom will be up against the Gen 2 Maverick (2028?) . I'm sure the G2 Maverick will have 2 interior grades and many more stand-alone options for higher trims.

yep, thats a very good tradeoff, as long as there are no issues of course, but for me i would prefer the peace of mind having the early growing pains figured out. I can admit that the folks that got the first model year in the low $20k’s got a killer deal.

its all subjective anyways, as long as whatever you got works for you and you're happy with it.

There's the competition factor as well as limitations for those whom a plug in EV only is a problem.
For those with at home charging for an around town vehicle, it might work well.
For me, it would not work, and it looks like it's low ground clearance would not even allow it to make it to my residence.

Car and driver notes its potential target price and maybe when it might be available, with more information to come about:
  • EV Motor, Power, and Performance
  • 0–60-MPH Times
  • Towing and Payload Capacity
  • Range, Charging, and Battery Life
  • Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe
  • Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
  • Infotainment and Connectivity
  • Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
  • Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
  • C/D Test Results and Specs
In other words, basically, everything else.

I'd switch because I admire the engineering descriptions I've seen to date. And because I want to experience EV ownership in our multi-car garage. And because I don't trust my Maverick one day out of the powertrain warranty.

I don't love my Maverick. I do greatly respect it. Those are very different things.

2022 Mavericks came with a few amenities no longer available. And as you said, at a killer price point.

They started cutting corners almost immediately.

👍

I backed into a fence post a year ago that made a scratch and just continued with my day without saying a word. My wife was with me. Later that night, she said she was surprised I didn't freak out.

A) I was driving. I can't be mad at myself

B) It's a truck. It's meant to be used. It is meant to be consumed.

I have bought five vehicles in my life. I still own four of them. The one that's gone was stolen and never recovered.

I won't switch before I feel like my Maverick is getting worn out, and I've had it almost 2 years and it doesn't even have 20,000 miles on it yet. I won't be getting a Fathom anytime soon.

With the lack of support facilities (adequate charging stations).
It's a no-go..

Personally I have zero NEED to upgrade from my Maverick. BUT, here's some things I don't have that might make me make a change:

-Better infotainment system. We all know the base 8" system on the 2022-24 XL and XLT Mavericks is trash.
-Better safety: I've got 360 cameras on my other vehicle, but only a back up camera on my Maverick
-More useful plug in the bed. 400w on the Maverick is not good for much
-The mid gate. Ideally the Fathom would have a rear window that retracts into the mid gate before it folds so you have a full opening. Fixed glass where the mid gate lowers below would be limiting, and the complicated system in the Chevy Silverado EV is too much.
- A V2H system, not that I use it on my current EV
- A frunk. Exterior lockable storage without taking up room in the bed would be great
- AWD - wasn't an option on my '22 hybrid
- Higher quality interior. The Maverick looks good but it's all cheap hard plastic. I know this is a fantasy that I will not get

I definitely plan on ordering a Fathom as soon as I can. I have solar on my house, so charging is going to cost me $0. With 200+ mile range, I can easily live with stopping at a super charger if I am on a longer road trip.

This will also let me upgrade the couple of features that I really miss in my Maverick:

1. Rear Parking Sensors
2. Intelligent Door locks / Push button start, so I don't need to take my keys out of my pocket.

When I lived in South East Florida there were charges about every 15 to 25 miles. Almost every large shopping center, Walmarts, Cracker barrel but in the 4 years except for planned road trips I only charged away from home 4 or 5 times and then it was just for 15 mins. or so and It would add about 50 miles of range. I charged at home while I slept

BlueCruise. Also, I only put 6,000 miles a year on my Maverick and mostly use it for Home Depot runs with the odd scouting campout. I could charge it once a month with an extension cord or even throw a couple solar panels on my roof and keep it charged that way.

If the pricing, features, and paint options look right, I'm leaning towards making the switch.

What I REALLY would want and would get me to trade in, is a plug in hybrid maverick... same exact thing except a 50-80mi ev only range that I can plug into an outlet to charge overnight, but don't need to.
plugin Mav on my wish list for 2028. lol
