That's valid. I should have phrased that differently. I'm coming from the viewpoint of somebody who's watched family go through a ridiculously expensive Honda hybrid battery replacement out of warranty. So I saw them get burned on a "reliable" brand. But statistically it was probably just that one bad apple. I should have said that a high-cost hybrid battery replacement is probably very unlikely, but potentially very expensive. I shouldn't have implied (which I did) that Maverick hybrids are gonna drop like flies. As you said, the engine history suggests that's not true.
The hybrid power train comes with 8 year 100k warranty and no upcharge. Hondas aren’t as reliable as everyone makes them out to be. They make great engines but a car is more than just an engine. We had a new one that had issues and were happy to sell last year during the used car boom. My accountant bought a 2018 exl crv and she had oil leaks within the first year that took 3 services to the dealer to fix. Told her to sell last year when she could have only taken a $3k hit after driving for 4 years but she wouldn’t let it go because she had bought the 100k warranty.

“…hybrid for expensive repairs down the road…”
not to offend anyone, as my point of reference is being a prior Prius 2016 IV owner, though what reason is there to think the Ford hybrid engine will not be as dependable as the Prius hybrid engine?
Though guess maybe, of course, they are not the same though maybe their ecvt‘s are more akin to each other then the engines are.
Last, am a newbie and not tracked EB egines…seems they are provide great mpg if not worked hard. Don’t know if EB is a turbo or has other features that might make them burn out faster.
ty
The Ecoboost does have a turbo
https://www.ford.com/powertrains/ecoboost/

The maverick is my third Ford vehicle and my second with an Ecoboost.

Ecoboost are tried and true powerplants at this point which is why I chose the eb over hybrid because I know the tech, can work on them and I would most likely have other problems with the truck other then the engine driving it till the wheels fall off.

The only reason I would consider the Santa Cruz is they are made 15 miles from my house. Otherwise, I'm not a huge fan of the Hyundai interiors.

If we don't get our hybrid orders and have to order the Ecoboost. is it better to get a Maverick Ecoboost or Santa Cruz?
Just a question, hopefully I'll get my hybrid.
I hate the looks of the Santa Cruz. But also its quite a bit more money too.

Maybe you should ask this question on the SantaCruzTruckClub forum.....

Wait...........What?

Santa Cruz ain a truck?

Nope. It's a Tucson chopped in the back like an El Camino.

Signed,

I LOVED my Tucson.

But now I got a Mav.

I'm in the "Neither" and "wait for the hybrid" group... I have been waiting since 1999 (when my 1986 S10 died) for a reliable pickup with car like manners and great mileage.

The Mav Hybrid is the first and only vehicle like it.

P.S. I do love the front end of the SC and the interior is nice. Almost too nice for a "gettin dirty" pickup. It's the fact that it's a Hyundai (reliability of the engine and suspect long term quality of interior surfaces) and a little too much "Tuscon-a-mino" look that rubs me the wrong way.

The main reason I didn't just go SC from the start was just that I actually like the crappy and cheap hard plastic Ford interior. It reminds me of the crappy and cheap hard plastic interior in my old Ranger, and I don't feel like I have to babysit it like the fancy soft and piano black Santa Cruz.
Me too.

I sat in a SantaCruz. I don't think Santa would be able to fit in the durn thing. I banged my head on the roof due to the sloping windshield, nearly gave myself a concussion. I get in and out of my trucks many times a day, and the upright position on the Maverick is a huge benefit to me.

The EB Maverick is terrific! Lots of power, comfortable seats and it rides great. The EB is about 5 MPG worse on the highway in my experience.

Depends your priorities. MPG. wait on the hybrid. Price, wait on the hybrid. You want a truck wait on the hybrid. You want an SUV with a bed aka a SAV (Hyundia's marketing term) get a Santa Cruz. If you can't get a hybrid and MPG or Price is the primary criteria get an Ecoboost.

I guess if one was worried about the length of warranty, they could buy the Ford ESP plan for around $1100-1200. That would cover bumper to bumper for 5yr/100k. Hyundai bumper to bumper is 5yr/60k. But, Hyundai powertrain is 10yr/100k.
Santa Cruz does have some advantages over the Maverick....higher end interior, quieter ride, among other things. And I've noticed some posts favoring the Santa Cruz payload and towing.
I'll just repost the following:

" Just out of curiosity, I looked at the Santa Cruz manual....the max you can haul in the bed is not too exceed 661 lbs. (bold print warning in the manual). So about half what you can haul in the Maverick. So don't be fooled by the SC's 1,411 lb. payload - the majority of that weight will have to be in the cab with you. And prepare to get honked at 😉 ....Hyundai says to stay 60mph or less when towing (45 or less on uphill grades). Maverick is 70mph. Above sea level, you'll need to subtract 10% of your trailer weight for every 1000ft of elevation with the Santa Cruz (2% with Maverick). "

I've been driving the Maverick for only a couple of weeks, and do admit I miss the quieter ride, some creature comforts/tech. But coming from another EB 2.0L, this one definitely does not disappoint. The handling also surprised me. You'll need spend at LEAST 10k more to get anywhere near the performance in the truck/suv arena. And of course the utility/practicality of it is hard to beat.

Dollar for Dollar? EB Mav all day in my opinion. If I didn't mind paying the local $5K markup? That puts the Maverick directly into Santa Cruz money and at that point, I'm going Santa Cruz. Nicer interior IMO, better towing, better warranty. All IMHO.
A 2023 Maverick EB XLT 4WD and 4K tow with comparable equipment to a SC SEL 4WD is over $1000 more at MSRP. Of course the Maverick has more HP, but without the 4k Tow has less towing, slightly larger payload, 3" longer bed. The SC has solar glass, trunk in the bed, wireless android auto/auto car play, more safety features, weight adjusting rear shocks, rear window heating and a much longer warranty with 3 years maintenance service.

Don't fall for the incredibly long warranty on the SC they have to do it or no one in their right mind would buy a Hyundai product. Just Google Hyundai fire and recalls. They haven't figured out how to build a car since my high school days 30 years ago. Think about it why would a dealer be selling SC under MSRP when the mavericks can't be kept in stock. If you watch the comparisons for EB maverick even the hybrid vs SC on YouTube the Maverick eats the SC lunch even though on paper the SC seems to have the upper hand. Way better off-road than the SC and no DCT to deal with. Ford's been building trucks forever Hyundai not so much. You have to figure the pedigree matters.
Obviously you are overlooking Ford's issues when you rip on Hyundai. Ford has by far the worst quality of any manufacturer in the world and it's been that way for the last three years. Fires and recalls and warranty costs seem to be a Ford way of life. I've watched comparisons and obviously there are arguments for both sides of this equation. The guys at TFL love the SC. The SC turbo with the DCT is an issue the lower powered fully aspirated SC is a better choice.

What a hilariously biased statement..

surely you have a lot of data to back up this claim? “By far the WORST quality” LOL

Read the manual correctly that warning is based upon 5 passengers at 150 pounds each in the cab. 5x150=750, total payload 1411. That means that 661 pounds are available in the bed of the truck. The axle ratings on the sc are 2600 lbs inthe fornt 3200 pounds in the rear. Add the standard self leveling in the rear and you should be able to igure it out. Also watch TFL load something like 900 pounds in the bed with passengers in the cab and you would find it handles the 1411 pounds fine including the bed. As far as towing the SC numbers were based on towing 5000 pounds versus the Maverick at 4000 pounds.
As far as your $10k comment, again you need to look at comparable vehicles. Comparing a semi stripped truck to a loaded truck is not a comparison in this case. Try comparing apples to apples and you will find your comment very inaccurate. My SC was over $1000 cheaper then a comparable Maverick.
