Funny thing, right after I noticed it, and before I had a chance to contact the place I had it done I got a customer satisfaction e-mail from Jiffy Lube corporate. So, I filled it out with exactly what happened.

A couple hours later I'm getting a call from the manager saying they screwed up, asked me to bring it back so they could change it out.

So, in that regard they did the right thing to the best of their abilitity. I'm sure corporate getting the complaint had something to do with that, though. ;)

Many engine manufacturers recommend NOT changing oil early due to the extra additives/lubricants that are used in engine assembly. I don't believe there is any type of break in oil but I'm sure there are lubricants used in engine assembly.

Replace a camshaft or crankshaft (lifters, bearings) and you are to use a special assembly lubricant. That lubricant will remain in the oil until oil is changed.

Years ago (1960's to 2000"s maybe) engines weren't built to such tight specifications and oil's didn't lubricate like synthetics do now so there was concern about metal wear and particles getting in the oil thus on bearings so an early oil change was recommended.

I would not recommend changing engine oil early for that reason, unless told to do so by the engine manufacturer. Most important is to use a high quality oil filter, there can be a huge difference in filter filtration.
Assembly lube is a thing but it's main purpose is for the 1st start up to protect the moving metal on metal parts before the engine oil has a chance to move throughout the system. Thinking that assembly lube is important afterwards is probably not a thing (especially after 1000 miles). All engines will create some slight glitter in the oil especially when it's new. IMO it's not a bad thing to do the 1st oil change early to remove this metal residue from the system.

You are exactly on point; I could not have said it any better.

The bar at the end of my brother's block has a patio that overlooks the exit from the parking lot that is also shared with another brewery and a Jiffy Lube.

There is a dark oil stained trail leaving the parking lot where we have witnessed on no less than 3 separate occasions a vehicle leaving jiffy lube with oil leaking to full on streaming out of the bottom of a vehicle.

We make our fair share of happy hours but we aren't there that much we should be seeing that many mishaps.

Hybrid is 0W20, still got it wrong 🤣
Worse, did they put something entirely different in it and just key in a random viscosity? it might be ATF!

You went to "Iffy Lube" shame on you, I tried them once and they stripped the drain hole on my Finned Aluminum oil pan on my 327 in my 67 Chevy Van.

My plan to use my points for an oil change at the dealership were put on hold as I didn't want them to do the blinker recall at the same time, given all the reports of electrical issues right after the recall was done,so...............

Like a dummy, I decided to take it to Jiffy Lube for my first oil change @ 1820 miles. They have Penzoil Ultra Platinum synthetic, and I've been happy with that oil in the past. I request that oil in a 5w30. Even says 5w30 right on the oil filler cap.

Get all done, pay for it, and layed on the ground to check the skid plate was put back on correctly. Looked good.

Get home, and look at the reciept. It says they filled it with 5w20. WTF! How hard can it be? Oil changes is all they do! 5w30 right on the cap, for crying out loud.

Now I have to go back and get it changed again. Atleast it'll be free, but still.

 I'm starting to think they're all out to get us Maverick owners. All of them. It's a conspiracy.

LOL! ;)
I went to a Jiffy Lube (or something similar) for an oil change due at 12K miles or whatever, and they bitched incessantly about the 15+ screws they had to undo in addition to not having the proper oil filter. NEVER AGAIN.

Years ago my dad had me drive my mom's car to the Ford dealer my brother worked at for an oil change. My brother had a Ford ASSET student working with him at the time so he had him do the oil change.

The young man used a crescent wrench to tighten the oil drain plug. My brother found that he had rounded the drain plug and had to go to parts to get a new one. He explained to the student that using a properly sized tool and not a crescent wrench is important.

So just because you go to the dealer it doesn't mean you will have a better, more qualified person do your oil change.

Very true.....just as many dealer hacks as chain hacks.

The only way to GUARANTEE a good (or bad :poop:) job is to do it yourself. I thank God every day for the ability to do so. 🙂

Yep. Dealers have to find new tech's and pool of experienced people looking for work is small. So they hire inexperienced people that they can train and hopefully one day be a valuable tech.

A lot of these people start out in the Quick Lane doing oil changes.

Gave J Lube 2 chances in my lifetime. First time I watched them use the wrong oil. Manager did not believe me. I said let's ask the tech what hose he pulled..........yep, wrong oil. They drained and refilled it. 10 years later tried them again in a different state. I watched again and when they filled it, I asked why they did not check the level since he just squeezes the trigger on the fill hose. He said ok, turned off the engine and checked it. I said you have to give it some time to settle. "No I don't". No reason to debate, so I got home, waited, checked it, and it was overfilled. I drained some off and that was if for J Lube. Other experiences at other places convinced me to do it myself. Other than about 6 times, I have always done it myself over the last 40+ years.

One time (not at band camp) the mechanic used channel locks to get the fill cap off. Bugged it up and scratched the heck out of the top of the valve cover.
