I get your point too. Why use something that isn't approved when plenty of approved alternatives are out there? I'm just glad to see so much activity on a thread about regular maintenance.
Where is the list of approved alternatives?

Pennzoil Platinum or Amsoil. Not a Mobil 1 fan at all but they have fantastic marketing.

I have researched the Warren Oil full synthetic products (WalMart. Amazon, Costco) pretty extensively. IMHO the Costco full synthetic is a great product and has a great price. I use the Costco 0w20 it in my 2015 Civic and the 5w30 in my Audi; the Costco 5w30 full syn will be my choice in my Maverick.
It's a great deal too. Four 5 qt bottles for about $66? Best value out there. Include a filter and it's a $20 DIY oil change.

Your choice of oil, particularly when you are talking about full synthetics, is not as important as the frequency you change the oil.

The walmart supertech filters are actually pretty decent too, but motorcrafts are somewhat better. I'll use whatever I can get, every 3-5k miles.

Kirkland signature synthetic. Stock up when it goes on sale for $25 for 2 5 qt containers. Use it in 2 Subarus and a Honda and soon to use it in a Maverick. Man, kids need to get off the payroll soon.
Lol payroll...is for life. Yours and there's.

Running Mobile 1 Advanced - however debating whether this is worth the cost as this motor runs incredibly dirty and figure I will be changing oil / filter every 3-5k to keep it clean...
