My plan to use my points for an oil change at the dealership were put on hold as I didn't want them to do the blinker recall at the same time, given all the reports of electrical issues right after the recall was done,so...............

Like a dummy, I decided to take it to Jiffy Lube for my first oil change @ 1820 miles. They have Penzoil Ultra Platinum synthetic, and I've been happy with that oil in the past. I request that oil in a 5w30. Even says 5w30 right on the oil filler cap.

Get all done, pay for it, and layed on the ground to check the skid plate was put back on correctly. Looked good.

Get home, and look at the reciept. It says they filled it with 5w20. WTF! How hard can it be? Oil changes is all they do! 5w30 right on the cap, for crying out loud.

Now I have to go back and get it changed again. Atleast it'll be free, but still.

 I'm starting to think they're all out to get us Maverick owners. All of them. It's a conspiracy.

LOL! ;)
I guess every dealership is diffrent in the way they do their maintenace. Oil changes , tire rotations and the like are handled by the ford express lane service at our dealership, stuff like recalls etc are handled on the otherside of the house where break fix and other issues are handled. Bottom line I can take my truck in for an oil changeand if I do not schedule with the other side of the house no recalls or warranty work will be done.

OP After you go back to JL again you may want to check and make sure they put the skid plate back on. I have also heard too many stories about fast lube places leaving them off.

Or, synthetic blinker fluid 😭
Ya gotta watch that - once they tried passing off aftermarket blinker fluid on me but I made them use OEM!

Years ago my dad had me drive my mom's car to the Ford dealer my brother worked at for an oil change. My brother had a Ford ASSET student working with him at the time so he had him do the oil change.

The young man used a crescent wrench to tighten the oil drain plug. My brother found that he had rounded the drain plug and had to go to parts to get a new one. He explained to the student that using a properly sized tool and not a crescent wrench is important.

So just because you go to the dealer it doesn't mean you will have a better, more qualified person do your oil change.

From my experience, starting as a LOF (lube, oil, filter) guy, yep...

Pair that with low (starting?) wages, being on a timer and potential pressure from an a hole boss and it's a recipe for disaster the customer sometimes pays for. I'm glad I had a good teacher and none of those worries for the most part. Then adding to those tasks was axle/hub repairs and wheels/tires. Not long after I was making my own service schedules for the fleet and helping with rebuilds and other work after I was done.

Most these low level employees can't even afford their own tools now days and are expected to stay on that low level for a long time. Too many mechanics that go "that's how I had to do it" instead of actually helping them progress. It's so rare to get one that is prepared for a career in the industry and going to a trade school for it, even more rare when they have enough tools for the jobs required.

But I think the hierarchy definitely would go something like
quickie shops < dealerships < private/specialty shops
and someone looking to hire help they can mold into a certified tech might look down on someone having previously worked at a quickie shop and learned a bunch of bad/incorrect techniques. At least at most dealerships there is plenty of the correct equipment needed. And of course, always a risk letting someone else do the work.

And I say all this as someone that hates dealerships :ROFLMAO:

In California entry level employees like Quick Lane techs are often supplied tools by the dealer. That's because a California law that requires the employer to pay their employees twice the minimum wage if the employee purchases their own tools. That's $32 an hour.

So the dealer will buy a cheapo tool kit for the new guys doing oil changes and other minor repairs because it pays off in the long run.

That also explains a lot for me, considering CA is where I learned.

I've taken my '13 Escape to have it's oil change at the dealership. I usually do it myself, but at that time I was traveling for work. Well anyways, they forgot to secure the bottom engine cover and it scraped it on the trailing edge. Called the dealership and they denied that they their techs would of missed that. Then tell me that we all know that cheap hardware is used on the engine cover.

I'm kind of hesitant on dealership changing my oil vs. Jiffy Lube/Valvoline.

Bottom line is spend a few extra dollars at the dealer for insurance and peace of mind.
Or save tons on money and do it yourself for the ultimate piece of mind to ensure it was done correct and with proper oil.

I went to dealer once with F150 because I was moving and didn't have garage space to do it, they over filled it by 1 quart and then argued with me claiming it took 7 quarts when it really took 6..... I'll never go to dealer for service unless it's under warranty or a recall where they have to do the work. They hire the same kids that jiffy lube does.

My company vehicle is a Ford F-150. We get a list of places that we can take our vehicles that participate in our service plan. Jiffy Lube is one of them. Twice those knuckleheads overtightened the oil drain plug on my F-150...which is plastic...and only needs really hand tightening. They wrenched on that plug until it split, and I had oil leaking everywhere. I keep going back despite them doing this cause I get a free car wash with my oil change. Company rules dont allow us to wash our vehicles and charge it to our company credit cards. What do I care if they destroy my company car....I'm getting free car washes. For real though, I would never take my personal car or a car I cared about to JiffyFools.

I had a 2011 F150 ecoboost. First year of that engine. They had an issue with timing chains. The recall for it was to put a new oil cap on with a thicker grade of oil. They still had the issue.

They probably thought you had a hybrid. They just look at the computer to see what your vehicle takes and didn't dig deep enough.
Even if he had the Hybrid they still got it wrong. Hybrids take 0W/20 not 5W/20.

No way I'm going to Jiffy Lube in my Maverick. And despite how I love my local Valvoline store, I won't be going there either.
