“Also, if you are looking to protect your rear end (😏) you may want to check out the Super Bumper.”

Sorry, that should be Spare Bumper. You can check it out at sparebumper.com
That super bumper is a good idea, but remember when each vehicles bumper was mounted to the frame by 2 very similar items, they really should mount bumpers like that again. Those big bumpers on those older cars really took the impact.

They were 5 mile an hour impact bumpers. The law mandating those bumpers was repealed in 1982.
I really doubt they would stand up to the type of hits at the Mavericks have gotten and they weren't mandated for trucks. They were God awful ugly. 🤮
Look it's even a Maverick

I was going to say, they re ugly on the front, though a rest truck bumper ought to be 5 mph capable. Ought to be, but probably isn’t. Although the one on my F-150 was very substantial.

I remember those bumpers.

Problem is physics. Unless it's mounted on shock absorbers.
Something solid like that bumper, mounted to a solid truck with no crumple zones something or someone is going to feel the impact. The shock will dissipate throughout the truck. Possibly breaking the seat back.

It may help keep that critical part on the 'frame' from bending & totaling a vehicle for minor damage though.

That critical part on the frame is supposed to do what it's doing which is bending it's called a crumple zone. If you're hit hard enough to bend the frame it's not a minor impact, it's not a 5 mile an hour impact. You do realize that we're talking about 25 to 35 or higher MPH impacts? How much of the unibody frame would it actually protect at those speeds? It's kind of a mystery at this point.
The other part of the problem is. Most of the damage comes from the impact hitting the trailer hitch which is connected directly to the frame. You have to somehow shock absorb the trailer hitch.
Those bumpers were mandated 50 years ago.
The standard called for passenger cars, beginning with model year 1973, to withstand 5 mph front and 2 ½ mph rear impacts against a perpendicular barrier without damage to certain safety-related components such as headlamps and fuel systems.
The mandate was repealed 40 years ago. I don't think they're coming back anytime soon.
I certainly wouldn't buy a vehicle with those ugly 🫏 bumpers.

Best protection from accidents - insurance.
$hit happens.
I was also rear ended in a one month old cactus grey Mav. Bummed, but got over it. More annoying than anything. Ended up at $15k or so in repairs!

It "LOOKS" minor but the steel has been compromised.

From my insurance company "supplement estimate for a grand total of $43,114.17"
The reason for the high estimate is that Boron Steel cannot be repaired. The whole underlying frame section must be replaced.

My feeling is the steel was already compromised when they designed it with those relief points. They are there so it folds. How much difference is it going to make?

Thinking of an empty aluminum soda can: Undamaged I could stand on it, but as soon as there is any deformation, it crumples. If they designed the "frame" without the relief points I could see how that wrinkle compromises the integrity. Design in some relief points on the soda can and it would just crumple, never supporting me standing on it.

As you stated that's part of the safety mandated crumple zone. Rest assured they are not going away. Something we all live with owning a newer vehicle. Yes me included.
