Is it worth having Tailgate Assist Strut? Is it worth having Hood Assist Struts from MRT?

Door window deflectors (Rain Stoppers) essential for me. Ventilation for rainy days.

taligste assist. No. Especially the one currently offered. It’s appears slow. Likely there will be more out soon with smaller shocks that drop faster.

Looking for input on is it worth having the strut assists for the tailgate and the hood. Seems plausible, but not really necessary, just like Door Window Deflectors.

> MRT has hood struts for $138 (standard black finish), or $198 for color (+$60 more)

Just wondering ....... Your thoughts?

Ouch. I just replaced the ones on my 2005 Sport Trac for $25 from Amazon.
The kit is $140 which includes all the necessary hardware to add the struts. The replacement struts are much cheaper......

We have both installed on our Mav and don't regret either purchase. IMO both give the Mav a more "premium" look and feel. Do you need either one to enjoy the Mav? Nope, of course not but sometimes it's not always about needs......sometimes it's nice to have wants as well.
A premium look? Other than yourself, how many people are ever going to watch you open your hood to form that opinion?

If Ford is charging $140 would definitely wait for aftermarket. These are $30-$50add ons

We didn't do it for other people we added them for us. We don't give two shits if other people see them because they weren't meant for them anyway.:)

I think one should buy and change whatever they want on their truck, bicycle, motorcycle, powerchair, skateboard, etc. If you want it get it. If you want to keep the money in your pocket till you see something else to get do that too.

Change is good for many. Have it your way.

I personally don't need the tailgate shock. Never had one on a truck. Most of the cars I have owned have the prop rod. I did have lifts on my 2002 Sport Trac. They gave out after many years. I replaced them and the replacements were going bad much quicker. Rod doesn't go bad.

if you‘re disabled such that these functions of the truck are difficult, then yes, totally worth it.

I originally planned to install the tailgate assist and was thinking about the hood strut.

But now that I have the truck I find that both tailgate and hood are so light that I don't really feel the need to add them.

I would like to get hood struts if I can find them cheaper. Only because the hood arm doesn't hold the hood high enough for my liking, but this is a first world problem.

I bought the tailgate strut. It is awesome, though a bit slow. I assume it will speed up in time. I like it because I can open it and walk away to do something else while it is opening. I originally thought it was a little overkill, but I do it all the time. I bring something to the back, set it down to open the tailgate, and by the time I get the item back in my hand the tailgate is open. Tailgate never slams. Because I have a cover on my bed, and I put so much in my bed it might be my favorite add-on that I have bought.

But like everyone else says it all depends on what you do, if you have the money and you can use it then get it. if you can't afford or can do without don't.

Contact your local dealer. Mine got me one in 4 days even though website said sold out. They even got me a FITS kit in 6 days. I "had" to spend the rest of my Ford Pass points. The only think they haven't been able to get is the bed cubby and an extra pig tail for the wiring in the back.

I heard someone mention once about how light the hood is. So light the strut might bend it. I think this was in jest but does make you wonder if it's engineered for that. Not as concerned on the tailgate obviously.

How much height is the hood arm short of max hood opening ?

the tailgate struts are fine if that’s your thing but why not wait a few weeks or months until they are $30 on eTrailer or Amazon. Might even be some faster drop options.

To each his own. I’ve never had a tailgate assist, and I have had a support rod for my hood. No issues with either one 😎

Hood struts don’t make sense to me — I open the hood to wipe it down after a detail a couple times a year and to check fluids as often as a normal person would. Save the $140

tailgate strut is nice and for me it’s a safety feature. Multitasking with the baby, stroller, bags, etc… it makes life easier and I won’t bonk my kid on the head with the tailgate.

Just make sure you file the taillight bolt down so the strut doesn’t rub and wear. File it down a bunch, paint it black, and put it back.
