I WANT a manual truck. I would gladly pay extra to have it converted or come from factory in manual. And we are off again.
I agree it should have a more solid feel. In other words everything you said.
I tried to simulate a gear shift handle. I realized the space that a handle intrudes upon and it would get in the way of the cups in the holders. I don't care for the dial but I'm learning to live with it.

Or just keep it as is and adjust to it

If they change it to a stick. People will be pissing and moaning about it being in the way.
I would have paid extra for Lariat with cloth seats or an XLT w/ power rear sliding window. Like my sport trac had.I WANT a manual truck. I would gladly pay extra to have it converted or come from factory in manual.
Lots of luck finding a manual anything these days. You can't even get a Corvette with a manual transmission now.I WANT a manual truck. I would gladly pay extra to have it converted or come from factory in manual.
When the consumer market was buying new, I was unable to afford a new vehicle and provide influence on that choice. Now that I can, it’s too late. Companies have mostly moved to automatics because of streamlining and convenience. Additionally, I imagine the dealer reselling market is probably easier.Lots of luck finding a manual anything these days. You can't even get a Corvette with a manual transmission now.
Also, very few people know how to operate a manual transmission these days. When the consumer market was buying new, I was unable to afford a new vehicle and provide influence on that choice. But the thing is: I can’t maintain an automatic transmission. I can maintain a manual. Also, very few people know how to operate a manual transmission these days.
But I think the main thing is that automatics are now much more efficient than manuals in every way. They're just not as fun.

And I think it's almost standard on the F150's now? Doesn't the XL even have the fold down "work bench"? Or is that still just the higher end ones?Ford needs to bring back the column shifter and use that space for either more storage, or a cool removable center console that can be customized.
Their marketing can go nuts talking about it along with the FITS system and the bed features.
Hmmmm - how easy to not reply?10 pages on this stupidity again? It can't be changed and won't be either.....Move on or sell your maveick.
Good thing it's easy to ignore both people and thread.
I don’t know, I’ve had 4 & 5 speeds all my life (67) and I kinda like this rotary shifter. Sure it takes some getting used to but to me it’s different and fun. To each his own!Not fond of it, but its ok. Would prefer a regular shifter with the same gear selection feature that i had on my F-150, and the ability to lock out gears in hilly terrain if I want.
But as I said in the past, it's not the end of the world.
