It gets the job done, but I hate it and consider it a safety defect because it forces me to look inside the vehicle while making a three point turn, usually while trying to beat or avoid oncoming traffic, when my eyes should be 100% outside of the vehicle.

It's like having a cordless hole puncher for self defense that required you to use it in enough light that you can see the controls, instead of being able to operate it entirely by feel, in the dark, so that you can keep your eyes out for threats.

The roulette wheel shifter is still rated as the biggest fail in my maverick after 1 year of ownership. I would totally change my rating of it if it had a raised position indicator and didn't spin like a pinwheel

It's fine. If that's where they want to cut costs, I'm fine with it. Just wish it had a mechanical cutoff on either end.
Yep. With a dial, I'd prefer end stops. But ideally I'd just like push buttons like my last car had.

Initially I did agree that end stops would be nice.
"Mr Pibb" had stated that the end stops could not be implemented because of the auto park feature that the Maverick has.
It allows it to auto switch to park as well since it doesn't matter where the dial is at the time. There at least one guy here that just hits the power and opens the door so they don't have to give it a spin.

Where you can turn the key off, open the car door and it automatically shifts into park.
Some folks use that feature, I don't.
I understand why they couldn't have the end stops and still have that feature in the truck.
That makes sense, but I think some cars have both dials and auto-park. I don't have an example though, I'd have to do some googling... I'm sure it'd cost more as it'd need a servo or something. Push buttons would solve it. I use auto-park reasonably frequently, I got used to it in my EV that had push buttons.

Good luck googling

I'm still loving my 24 Lariat 2.5 but I still have somewhat of a dislike for the rotary knob. Wish it had stops, and it would stop defaulting to normal every time I stop the engine. Probably the most practical vehicle I've ever owned, including my 2011 Ranger which I also loved.
