Video what? The whole procedure? Don't see much point. I can reproduce this if I want. I have no idea if it happens on other models or other years, I can only test this on my vehicle. If you don't believe me, shrug, I don't care. At least I know what not to do.

I don't know. I didn't test with FordPass, taking the keys out of the car with me, or anything other than exactly the steps I described here. I can say if you're going to test this yourself, make sure you have a second set of keys handy.
Why don't you just leave the window open??.....(of course I mean just for testing this)

Exactly.

Be interesting if it does NOT do the auto-lock if it thinks you opened door and got back in, or if passenger still in seat.

I'm betting if you get back in - no auto-lock.

I'd be curious if it thought passenger there - I'm betting no auto-lock.

I actually picture this as the safe default action.
You left truck running, since hybrid you may not even have noticed you left running.
Remind you. If you fell asleep then it turns off after 15 min. If still desired it remains on.
If you got out you may not have noticed running.
Give you 5 min in case coming back.
If not back, need to protect the truck from being stolen.
Lock all.

As opposed to alternate - run all night with doors unlocked accidentally because unnoticed.
Except by thief of course.

Now I'm wondering if I've just not waited long enough.
Because key in ignition is the same as fob in cab for keyless entry systems. Same driver sensor.

Now to see how well the memory works - next time I plan on fiddling in yard for some minutes, I'll start with the 15 min parked and sitting in it - see if I get the Still On warning for one thing.
Then exit and pull some weeds or break up some limbs listening for that 5-10 min mark auto-lock.
A default that locks you out of your running vehicle is not a good default.

Maybe the 25's have another 15 min notice about Leave Running - if not answered, then off it goes.

it only notifies you once from what i have seen.

couldn't during my recent testing, just had the front windows tinted and can't open them for a few days.

I have done this also, not on purpose. My Prius wouldn't let that happen. When it happened I forgot I could open it with the Ford app on my phe.
I know @Glen Baker LLC was particularly interested in this after I managed to do it the other day. Took a little more testing but I can duplicate it every time now. Note, this happens on my vehicle, as the saying goes "your mileage may vary." I have a new 2025 Maverick Lariat with the "intelligent key access".

Don't test this if you don't have another way into your vehicle! You have been warned!
  1. Start up vehicle in driveway (I haven't tested this during or after driving the vehicle).
  2. Unlock all doors.
  3. Leave the keys in the vehicle, dashboard is fine.
  4. Putz around in vehicle until you get the pop-up message about the car running and press Ok to let it continue running.
  5. Exit vehicle, shut all doors, don't touch lock/unlock, just get out. you can test opening and closing the door, just don't touch the lock pad. the door is unlocked at this time.
  6. Walk away, stay away for a few minutes. Not sure on time amount needed, I stayed out for 5 each time.
  7. Come back, all doors are locked. Keys are in vehicle. Engine is running.
Not sure if this is a bug or a feature, but at least I know not to do this! I have not tried with vehicle off or any other conditions. I am curious if this can happen to others, but please be careful if you try it yourself. I will contact Ford and report this to them.

Well this just bit me in the ass with my 2025. I was out riding dirt bikes so I used the Ford Pass app to purposely lock my keys in the truck so I wouldn't have to carry them with me while I was riding. (I'm always paranoid about losing them.) When I got done riding I used the Ford app to unlock the truck, no issues there. I opened the front door and was loading my riding gear into the truck and noticed It was warm in the cab so I used to Ford Pass app again to start the truck. At some point while I was loading my gear I laid my phone down on the front seat and then decided to close the door so the cab would cool off faster while I changed out of my boots. As soon as I closed the door I heard the door locks latch and my heart sank. Ended up having to bum a ride off of a buddy back to my house, and pay a lock smith to get me back into my house so I could get the spare key to the truck. Then I had to ride my dual sport bike back to the trails and unlock the truck. Then loaded the dual sport into the back of the truck and went back home. All in that one little mistake wasted half of my day and cost me $85. That SUCKS.

23 Lariat Hybrid. Locked my keys in vehicle, pillar keypad failed to function due to low battery (imagine that). Wife brought spare key set, all well. Dealer installed new AGM battery (warranty). Added a new “step” to my exit routine.

Because I'm old and shit happens.
I have a key hidden outside my house that my nieces know about.

I need to do something similar. I have a detached garage with keypad entry so I could probably just hide a key somewhere in there.

I NEVER take the keys out of my pocket. No need with my 2024 Lariat. Phone? Usually forget to take it out of my pocket.
Same. Keys In pants/shorts/jacket pocket always. No reason to leave them in the vehicle.

Bummer with all the work-arounds required.

Yours is different scenario though, unless you already had that 15 min time-out request pop-up and answered yes.
Was truck still in "Ready" on mode when you got back in?
I'm guessing after lockup that whole routine took longer than 15 min.

You heard latches lock quickly on closing door.
OP's experiment required a little closed door time, before it auto-locked.

Think you might have pushed the lock-lever next to the door handle?
Since you weren't sitting in it - guessing you never had to push near there.
Just wondering if the system assumed that if you pushed the lock-lever you intended to lock it - so it finished the job on rest of the locks. (perhaps knowing it was turning off in 3 min anyway)

It appears from the comments that this occurs with the button-start Mavericks, correct, or does this happen only with keyed start, or both? I believe this has now been confirmed to be the case with Lariat and XL, so I'm assuming both. I was thinking that this never has happened to me with keyed-start, but then I realized that I've never had the occasion to start a vehicle, close the doors and walk away for 5 minutes, nor can I think of a single case when I would do that.
