If anyone gets an official diagnosis from the dealer please share it with us!

I agree, once is certainly enough, imo.I'm also waiting to hear some results. I've only had this happen once, but once is enough for me to be a bit concerned. Ford actually called me to ask some questions a couple of weeks ago, but since I haven't had it occur again, I didn't respond. Please keep us updated.
Thanks for the update. I'm following this thread closely. It's not hard to imagine myself being in your position. Hope Ford takes more initiative and gives your case immediate attention.I agree, once is certainly enough, imo.
Today marks two weeks of my Mav living at the Ford serv dept. They’ve only been able to replicate it once— they’re waiting for the weather to get cold again. They want to hook it up to the scanners while it’s happening. They gave no information whatsoever about what might be going on with the truck.
I communicated with the “Official Ford Account” on this forum and I was told by that rep she’s passing my info and story onto another Ford department. Hopefully that raises some eyebrows.
I called Ford corporate cust support last Saturday and was told I’d hear back from a supervisor within 24-48 hours— haven’t heard back. I’m calling again today. I just got off the phone with a law firm that specializes in Lemon Laws and class actions. Getting those ducks in a row.
NHTSA and AG’s office are my next contacts after I speak with Ford again. I still want to give Ford the benefit of the doubt, but also don’t want to get the short straw.
I hope we can share some useful information with each other sooner than later.
I do have the number and extension for the Ford rep that called me. I DM'd it to you.I agree, once is certainly enough, imo.

Higher octane gas will make no difference. Surging is lack of fuel. Whatever is controlling fuel flow at warm up not providing enough fuel. Running lean is not good and should be addressed. I'd leave it at the dealer and not pick it up till it's fixed. Maybe a software fix to enrichen fuel mixture at warm up. Remember colder temperatures the air is denser and leans out the mixture.Great. Maybe you can figure out something to report to dealer. If that doesn't work might try higher octane gas just to check that possibility. I think you said it was running great while driving which casts suspension on engine not being warm enough yet. If it does not surge when you first start it then turn heat on max and if it surges then maybe you can figure out how long the ice needs to run before you turn max heat on 30 seconds or more. The computer knows when ice coolant is warm enough to turn the electric heater off so one would think it would know when it needs to wait a few seconds to start the electric heat assist.
Thanks for staying on this. You are doing all of us a great service. Perhaps when I finally get mine, this will be in the rear-view.I agree, once is certainly enough, imo.

It's me. I might tone down the title card, but... well... Ford hasn't exactly done a good job assuring me I didn't throw away $27K. I've heard you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, but I'm not sure it applies to this situation.Don't know if this is someone from the Forums, but here is another video and how to replicate it:
Hi there! Can you send us a PM with your VIN and Ford dealership information? I’d be happy to look into this on my end.Hello, I wanted to add to this as I found this thread while looking into the issue for myself.
I have been experiencing rough idle kinda jerky sometimes when I first start the car for the day. I have also experienced the smell people are talking about but not near the same time as the rough idle so don't know if related.
What's of note is that I live in Florida. The lowest temp it's gotten here is 50 at night and it's 65+ when I start the car. Also the weather has warmed back up to 75+ all day and the rough idle remains somewhat. I've only put the heat on max once and only to test it. Haven't since. I keep the AC at 72 and get rough idle when starting sometimes.
The smell I suspect is some excess material burning off somewhere and won't remain long term. But the Idle has me worried long term.
Just curious, did you read this entire thread, and also experience this yourself, and come to conclude that this seems normal?Hybrid owner since 1/1. Ive experienced this every time it is 20F or below with remote start. Surging idle and odor. Suring idle happens most frequently, then the plastic odor and maybe the egg smell once or twice. The surging idle is almost guaranteed every time is start it. IMO I would assume this is to warm up the engine, due to the fact while city driving the heat is weak to begin with when it is that cold outside. If it did not surge id imagine the engine would barley be warm
