I drive 90% of the time in Sport Mode. Sport mode automatically turns it off. When I'm not in sport mode, I turn it off manually. In my F-150 its the first thing I do, shut if off.
That's probably an easy way to do it. Sometimes, like if you are otherwise idling in traffic, it would be nice to have.

For me it would depend on how they implemented it. I drove a rental jeep with this feature and taking off was not a seamless experience.

maverick hybrid doesn't even have a traditional starter. it spins the generator motor with the HV battery. this is one of many reasons the HV battery never fully discharges.

autostop/start on non-hybrids is a nuisance, and on a turbocharged engine it's probably doing real harm. even though the 2.0's turbo is oil- and water-cooled, there is nothing good that can come of depriving the turbo of cooling when it's hot. the minuscule fuel savings is not worth any decrease in turbo center section bearing life.

to say nothing of the very traditional starter wear & tear, and does anyone else remember motor oil companies ads through the 80s and 90s that keyed on reducing start-up wear? "starting your engine is the most wear you can do" was the mantra... conveniently forgotten for some insignificant fuel savings and emissions reduction.

And the complexity added. Of course this is for non-hybrid discussion.

Wear & tear and reliability due to complexity.

I guess this is the case for Mild Hybrid - small battery, still eCVT with 2 motors.

I smile every time it activates when I am at a long light or in the drive through, but I am in the minority I suspect.

It’s easy to turn off if you don’t like the option, but it also saves emissions as well as fuel consumption. I believe it’s more of a mandatory requirement too (you see every car has them and some started having it many years ago) - but again everyone has their preferences/opinions,etc…

I've always wondered does it save that much gas in regular driving conditions like just normal stop light in a smaller town? I'm sure it helps in heavy city traffic obviously. I also wonder if all the constant restarting bad for the battery, starter, spark plugs etc? I feel like when I get my truck I'll probably turn it off most days. Do you guys use the auto start stop or do you turn yours off?
I think most people would find it useful if it were adjustable. I almost always turn mine off because my commute has a few stop signs and shutting the engine off immediately after I apply the brake only to start again immediately cannot be good. If I could set it to shut off 2-5 seconds after standing on the brake it might be useful.

Not a problem. If you want to turn it off just push the button. My Caddy has it, so I’m used to it. I doubt GM and Ford engineers would put it in vehicles for no reason 😉

Love it! Anything I can do to save a little gas is a plus…. With hybrids and non-hybrids, this (25 ordered) will be probably my 6th rig with auto start/stop… don;t even notice it anymore…

It wasn't really intended for fuel savings - rather emissions.
It was low hanging fruit for the makers to hit numbers for reductions in emissions. Not required, just useful with other changes happening already.
They have other goals for mpg improvements - this was not really an answer for those requirements.

As to concerns over temps and extremes - I would be curious how Ford's implementation of it matches with say Toyota discussed in the videos.
Especially curious did they do something special with evaporator to keep getting some cool from it when engine and compressor are off (or is compressor like the hybrid - electric?).

And with some poor batteries in hybrids - did the EB's get some bad ones too that prevented this system from working?

Don't like it. You can get a device for 100$ that will keep it in the off mode or what ever mode you last had it in.
