My only experience with high altitude driving was Pikes Peak (14,100 feet) back in the 1990s. The mustang I was driving made it fine. A non turbocharged older Volvo diesel car crapped out at 13,000 feet, the rear windows covered with soot.

Grandfather Mountain NC. I believe second tallest east of the Mississippi . 5946Ft above sea level.

I haven't specifically driven up any mountains or anything so only about 2000' above MSL. Best I could do around these parts would be to drive up Mt. Washington but my poor brakes going down....

Last year I drove over Bald mountain pass in Northern Utah 10,715, it's beautiful.
I would love to do mount blue sky formerly Mount Evans in Colorado 14,260. I-70 West just outside Denver turn off at Idaho springs. I've been up at probably a dozen times. Daytime and night time.
Used to be free to drive up. I don't know about nowadays.
If you drive it when the weather is crappy in Denver it should be beautiful at the top.

Around veterans Day I do a drive to bad water in death valley 282' below sea level.

Just shy of 5,000 feet in elevation. Besides driving through the Blue Mountains in eastern Oregon I haven't done much adventuring into the mountains here in the PNW with my Mav.

I took the cog railway from Manitou Springs up to the peak last fall. Weather was crazy up there. The Maverick stayed at Cheyenne Mountain.

I'm actually planning on doing both, drive up/down the maintain, then take the Cog Train ride. Rode a Cog Train in Germany near where my son lives, thought it was pretty neat.
