I had a 2022 lariat that experienced paint chipping or flaking. I had multiple white spots show up on the side of the front fenders where the paint flaked off in the first few months of ownership. Does anyone know if there was an issue back then...or did paint thickness increase with newer models? I'm expecting my 2025 to go into production next week.

thanks!

I've put 7K miles on my 2024 in 5 months and have only a single, tiny chip on the hood. Is that due to better quality paint than your 2022? Hard to say.

I think I read somewhere that the 2025's have some kind of protection film on the front of them. That should stop chipping from oncoming debris.

is this true?> is it on the front facing paint by default? I kind of have hard time believing. but part of me believes it, because all they offer as add on is partial hood partial fenders, why wouldn't they offer bumper? because maybe already covered.

Probably not. There's no real reason for them to improve it that helps them sell more or improve margin.

Do you drive it on roads with other cars/trucks/18-wheelers? I've been careful as can be, but after 20 months and 18K miles, I have a few chips that came from road projectiles. I also have at least 1 tiny windshield chip.

Yes, I drive it everywhere and live on a gravel road. 27,000 miles on the truck. I wash it once a year, every spring, and give it a coat of paste wax.

I have a 22 XLT fx4 in carbonized gray. The only paint problems so far are self inflicted chips from using it as a 1/2 beater and bike transport. Hope not to have a flaking problem…who does? Lol

It has been a while since this was discussed but if you really want to protect the paint (especially if you have a vibrant color like atlas blue, eruption green, HPR or cyber orange) invest in a ceramic coating. After 38 months of owning my XLT, I still get compliments on the Cyber Orange color. I also put a hood deflector on after several people on this forum suggested it.

But does ceramic protect against rock chips?
