I was loading some 2X4 and 2X6's at Home Depot, while I was strapping them down some guy stopped and said "Next time you should buy a real truck with an 8 foot bed"! A few good comebacks rushed into my head, but I took the high road and ignored him. Not sure why some people cant keep to themselves. What do you think a good comeback would have been?

How 'bout, "...I'd rather save the money for Scotch & more bullets..."

Thanks for sharing your opinion. Now let me share what a 2x4 feels like up-side your head. Share and share alike 😄

I thought I better check ours for Ontario...

111 (1) Every vehicle carrying a load which overhangs the rear of the vehicle to the extent of 1.5 metres or more while on a highway shall display upon the overhanging load at the extreme rear end thereof at any time from one-half hour before sunset to one-half hour after sunrise, or at any other time when there is insufficient light or unfavourable atmospheric conditions, a red light, and at all other times a red flag or a red marker sufficient to indicate the projection of the load. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 111 (1).
Which seems to mean, that for 8ft in the back, don't even need a flag because it comes out about a meter not 1.5... However, 10ft could cause arguments depending on whether Officer Barbrady wants to measure from the edge of the box or not. (When there's a few inch more of bumper under) ... then 12ft gets to almost definite because of argument about whether tailgate counts or not....

But I never see the thing about the light mentioned. Seems like it will be a good idea to get a couple of dollar store bicycle reds to throw on the end of things.... or use the hang-on trailer lights if you've got 'em.

Classy move: doing exactly what you did just ignoring him.

Angry and violent move: telling him to go f*** himself and then beating him to death with one of the boards.

I think the first idea is the best.

"Actually, the tailgate tilts so I can carry 8 foot sheets of plywood and drywall. Plus, I get over 45 miles per gallon. Have a nice day."

I live in a small town so it pays to be courteous.

On very rare occasions when parking next to large trucks, I tell the owner that my Maverick wants to be just like their truck when it grows up.
Just keep watering it and maybe it will grow

Real men don't need an 8 foot bed.

Who in the f%$^ck that isn't in a specialized profession or construction drives a truck with an 8' bed??? That's what rentals are for. Let me drive around town, go to work, park at the grocery store (all by myself), and oh yeah go to Home Depot to get some long a$$ lumber twice this year. Had a Tundra with a 6'ft bed and really only needed that less than 5% of my driving time.

Before I had my Mav, I borrowed my SIL 2500 HD Chevy crew cab with a full 8 ft bed to get some lumber. 3 notes: It took the full 8 ft 2x4's no problem; took 2 blocks to turn around in, and am able to watch the gas guage move very quickly!

In these situations I like to act really confused and try to get them to explain what they mean. Usually shuts them up when they can't really explain why it matters so much.

You should have told him to get on the internet & listen to Angus Campbell's I95 song!
