in reality and at this time, hybrids are a logical bridge between ICE and EV.....infrastructure is not close to being capable of meeting EV demand at the levels wanted....range of the EV vehicles is not anywhere close for those other than people that drive very little......charge time is too long for those that drive long distances.....just seems hybrids are both efficient and easy..
The average person drives 37 miles per day according to Google. This is at least in the ballpark of what I would expect. If people have range anxiety it's typically about longer trips that aren't very common. If your household has more then one vehicle having one be an EV would very, very rarely cause a logistical issue.

The title of this thread immediately made me think back to 2006, GM, and the EV-1. And to think, this movie documentary “Who Killed the Electric Car” was released about two years before the economy crashed, gas prices surged, and hybrids/EV’s really came into development.

Will history repeat itself? Clickbait or not, I would not be surprised if GM does it again…

I wholeheartedly agree. I wish that we would have required (i.e. gov mandate) that hybrids were more widespread to provide a bridge to EV adoption. Hybrids use much less batteries, the Ford/Toyota design is very simple and reliable, and provide a great increase to mpg, cutting fuel use/demand and emissions.

But that would require logic from OEMs and legislatures and that doesn't exist on either side of the political aisle.

EVs are subsidized because there is a desire to increase the number of people driving them. I'm not interested engaging in political BS here because I've already seen enough in this thread to tell me it would be a pretty fruitless effort to have a good faith discussion on the topic. So I'll just stick to the facts and leave opinions on what's the right or wrong thing out of this.
You’re right, we certainly don’t want to have a comprehensive conversation on a very complicated topic so let’s just keep it nice and narrow so we can avoid the unpleasant parts.

The reality is the political and social desires for electric vehicles is 10 or more years ahead of the actual infrastructure. That’s why we’re facing these uncertainties and actions taken by companies as they try to predict the future.

And shut down future EV plans for good.

Ford, and everybody else, is right behind them.

Nobody is buying these things anymore.

Toyota was one of the few manufacturers to be honest with themselves, and the public, about the future of EV’s, when they announced no plans to replace ICE/hybrids with EV’s.

An EV Maverick?
NEVER GONNA HAPPEN
We currently have a Maverick Lariat HyBrid and a Tremor. We luv them both. I will take my Cybertruck or Fisker/Alaska. When ever or if comes first.

Just what we need, another gov mandate. The others have worked so well lately.

I agree with that 💯 but range anxiety is not the only reason that certain people don’t want EVs. Honestly for me price kept me from going to one EV with two cars. I would have gladly gone with a EV and a hybrid.

They're slowing it down, not shutting it down.

You need to stop getting news from clickbait youtube channels.

And EV adoption is slowing because everyone is targeting the luxury market -- so folks can't afford them.
Arizona, through the federal infrastructure funds is entering into a public / private partnering to build fast chargers every 50 miles through all main traffic corridors in the state. There are now more EVs in California than ICE vehicles. Arizona is just as close as California, if we have not lately crossed the 50% mark. EVs are here to stay.

So everything you agree with is fact and everything you disagree with is politics. 🧐

I live in Arizona. Tucson. There is nowhere close to 50% of the vehicles being electric. I’ll take your comment that Cali has more electric than ICE with much skepticism.

I have no dog in this fight, but those statements are so far off that I just had to comment.

https://www.latimes.com/california/...reached-an-all-time-market-share-last-quarter

Last quarter was the highest sales of EVs ever in California, which was <25% of total cars sold in the state. Latest data I can find suggests that ~13% of cars registered in California are EVs, which is BY FAR the highest in the nation. In Arizona it is ~2.5% https://evadoption.com/ev-market-share/ev-market-share-state/

31.4 million registration cars in CA. Google says so.

Google also says California had approximately 903,620 light-duty electric vehicle registrations in 2022.

So NOT even close to 50 percent. Maybe they are referring to new car sales?? Or is that what you meant? But sure not on the road. I hate incorrect information,
