My buddy is having a helluva time fueling his 2025 Ecoboost Lariat BAP.

Nozzle shuts off and is super hard to restart. He gets one quarter of a tank in after much trouble. He talked to the dealer, I haven’t seen him since.

Penny for your thoughts.

Does he say if the nozzle is inserting fully. This is important in many of our day-to-day activities!!! Hopefully not having trouble because the diesel nozzle is larger!o_O

Throwing mud on the wall here to see if anything sticks: Faulty pump if this is not happening all the time?. Tank has more gas in it than the display is showing? Somehow the nozzle is such a tight fit that it is not letting air escape?

I would move to another pump and see what happens; however sounds like it happens all the time

Dime for letting us know what the dealer says!!!!

Since the EB's don't have an inside-release gas door, is it possible somebody has dropped something in the filler neck?

Is it possible he has inserted the filler nozzle to far in. My 2025 Lariat Hybrid had very specific instructions on not putting the filler in fully. Just up to the first twist in the nozzle

The tank needs to vent while you fill. If you routinely top-up instead of stopping at the first click-off, then you're filling the vent tube and charcoal canister assembly. When the fuel residue dries, your charcoal canister is damaged and the purge valve is gummed up, causing this symptom. There are no vehicles built today that can handle overfilling abuse like that. On the Mav, its about a $400 repair to fix your overfilling behaviour.

Yep it’s finicky for sure.

I only fill at Costco and if I pull in with passenger side to the pump and pull it over the bed it is frustrating how many times it clicks off.

I try to give the hose some slack and make sure the nozzle is fully inserted.

But I’ve also noticed if it’s busy that other vehicles filling up can impact the flow of gasoline and that change can cause it to shut off.

Just an educated PhD Physics guess but the Mexico manufactures want the truck to fail in every aspect so the CCP can keep you from fueling

Another short story ...I bought a second hand class C motorhome 10 years ago . No refueling problems for a couple years , and then on a weekend trip the nozzle constantly shut off . Tried a different pump , and then a different gas station , had to dribble in 50 gallons ....took FOREVER !
When I got home tried to put gas in with a gas can , it would start filling and then gush out .
Borrowed a " borescope" and peeked into the filler hose . Right at the tank was a check valve , it was stuck closed , I shoved on it with the scope and it popped opened . My brother has been driving it for 7 years now , never happened again .
I figured if it happened again I would have removed the filler hose and " neutered " that one way valve .
I realize it's there to prevent fuel spillage in a roll over accident , but I figured if the RV ever rolled over , its " game over " anyway .

Sorry , not that short of a story , but it might help someone , somewhere ...🤷

The valve in the borescope screen :

The EVAP system & canister etc are located above and the driver side of the fuel tank - about as far as possible from the gas station nozzle?

The gas station filler pump has a sensor at the tip that will shut off the pump when gas reaches that level.

Your friend should insert the pump tip into his truck, pull the trigger, set the hold lever, and let go. The pump will click off automatically. Then pull it out.

My guess I the truck is fine and user technique needs to be fixed. Unless he has made of habit of “topping off” - then the truck may be at fault & need of repair

THIS IS THE ISSUE! DO NOT keep filling after the pump shuts off the first time. I don't care if you only have 25 cents to go. JUST DONT DO IT!

I haven't had that problem on My 2025 XLT with the 2.0 EB although I hate the Gas Gauge yesterday I looked at it and it was at 3/4 of a tank not 10 minutes later it was between 3/4 and a 1/2 tank so down an 1/8 of a tank.

Jmjb might have hit the nail on the head. Had the exact same thing happen to my 22 hybrid xl. There is a check valve of some sort in the gas fill neck. It must be electronically controlled. Mine stuck closed. Threw a code on the dash (can’t remember which) The valve “fixed” itself at the next fill up. The dealer did check it weeks later. Nothing found. I’m very careful now when I fill up. Key out, then press fuel door release.
