Hi All, here's a question...I have a 2022 Maverick, Eco Boost engine with 23000 miles. It's been in service two years and 10 months. I just had an oil change at the dealership and they are telling me it's time to clean the fuel injection system. I said no, not now. I've driven the truck gently (no jack rabbit starts or accelerations, never off-road), changed the oil every 3000-4000 miles, and have run premium Top Tier gas for probably 95% of the time. That seems too soon to me and I think they're trying to blow smoke up my rear end. Am I wrong on this? I know there are those that are going to say only use the dealership for warranty work. They are close and charge about the same for oil changes as the private garage I trust with my other car. Once I hit the end of the 3 year, 36000 mile warranty in November, I intend to start using the private garage on this vehicle too. Thanks for your thoughts.

Fuel injection system!

Good grief.

And they didn't even include eating walnuts while cleaning the back of the valves due to DFI?
Something like that.
Disappointed in them.

Add Techron fuel injector cleaner (or equivalent) to your gas tank between every oil change.
That is what the service department will charge $150 for - diy for $15.

Toyota recommends this in their maintenance scheds.

I find it curious that anyone who changes their oil that often would question any preventative-maintenance idea thrown at them.

But no, at that low of a mileage, on top tier gas, a "fuel injection service" is nowhere near necessary. You can pose the question in another 75,000 miles and my own thoughts might be about the same.

Not sure the shade was necessary there "I find it curious that anyone who changes their oil that often would question any preventative-maintenance idea thrown at them." Oil is comparatively cheap. My last Ford truck ran 200,000 miles before a drunk driver hit it and totaled it, so I might be doing something somewhat correctly.

My last vehicle went 175,000 miles on oil changes every 10,000 miles (or whenever the OLM indicated it was time) and it was just fine, too. It was also totaled, or else I wouldn't have the Maverick.

Anyway, I said I found it curious. If that counts as "shade," okay. You don't need the fuel injection service.

No, you don't need it.

It's a scam to sell a $5 bottle of fuel injector cleaner at a huge markup.

I repeat - Techron (or equivalent) to your tank once between oil changes. 20% PEA - the scientific magic additive. The “fuel injector service” is Techron (or equivalent) added to your tank. Of course, you are charge half an hour labor @$190/hr plus the time to find your car out in the parking lot.

Exactly - do it yourself!

Check a receipt from Ford for injection service. $100 labor & $36 for fluid you can add yourself:

Nah, I don’t think you need a fuel injection cleaning at that mileage.
Think of it this way; If it’s still performing well and running as smoothly as when it was new, you shouldn’t need to do anything to it at all. Just keep doing what you have been doing.
As mentioned, a bottle of Techron may be helpful and it won’t hurt anything.
If the intake valves were getting gunked up enough to make it run rough, then you might want to have the system cleaned. But keep in mind that with a direct injection engine, the additive you put in the fuel is never going to touch the back of the valve.

Respectfully disagree, dhaskit - use cleaner BEFORE any gunk gets a footing. It is not expensive but hard to remember to add it to the tank occasionally:)

If you don't get that cleaning, the dealer owner won't be able to buy his 4th mansion this year. Think of the consequences.

The dealer owner made their millions by engines wearing out faster not slower. Take care of your engine for $40/yr so they don’t make $750,000/yr.

Resist! Maintain! Keep Engine Healthy!

I add one can of injection cleaner to all my vehicles every oil change ....at least I feel like I've done something , right or wrong , and it doesn't cost a fortune , I buy it by the gallon and disperse it accordingly .

I put more miles annually on my motorhome than the other 3 vehicles combined ....it's got a 57 gallon tank and is obviously the largest user of the addative ...

I was also adding injection cleaner at oil changes. Recently read somewhere that the injection cleaner should be added to the last full tank before the oil change. Just in case anything contaminates the oil. Then it is removed along with the oil. Not sure that can or does happen. But it seems just as good to add the cleaner to the last tank before the oil change. Besides the tank is usually not full when I change the oil and then I need to remember to add cleaner next time I fill up.
