As of August 17 my trusty mobile app is no longer working so I have lost all those handy features for remote start, remote locking and checking the status of our 2025 Maverick. Ford says the "mobile app is no longer supported. Update to the latest version to continue using connected features." Google Play says "This app isn't compatible with your device anymore. Contact the developers for more info."

Short of being forced to buy a new phone, has anyone found a work around for this tragic turn of events?

I updated on my 2 year old android and it works fine. My wife has a 9 year old android and the app still works.

Not a bad phone for $310 to $410 unlocked.👍

I have a Galaxy A54. The A56 is a larger phone than the A54 which is a perfect size. While the A54 does most of what I need I will most likely replace it with a Galaxy S25 like I got for my wife. It has much brighter screen, a dedicated OPTICAL zoom, and much better battery life and is similar in size to my A54's 6.4 " screen, not a ginormous 6.7" screen. The S8 the original poster stated he is using is not protected from current threats as Samsung stopped supporting it years ago,

Best cheapish Android phone is the Samsung Galaxy A17. OLED screen too. $150 bucks or so and supported with the next six Android updates. I have a A16 and works fine for me. I have no desire to spend big money on a device I consider a necessary evil.

Not the best CPU but this is not marketed as a gaming phone.

This happened to me within 2 weeks of getting my 2023 Maverick. Once I researched that Androids can't have the OS updated, and iPhones can, I switched to an iPhone and never looked back.

Not sure what you mean HRG. My Android A16 has had the OS updated once in the past year from Android 15 to 16 and is guaranteed 5 more which takes me to Android 21.

The original poster has an ancient Samsung S8. Long past any update support.

Good to hear! Maybe something has changed in the past 3 years, but back in '23 the Motorola Moto G4 I was using was DOA as far as Ford and other apps were concerned.

I don't own a PC, laptop or a tablet.
Everything I do is on a cell phone,
therefore the bigger 6.7" screen is great for me.

Dude, that phone was 7 years old in 2023... And came with version 6 and was updated to 7.

Not 100% true. If you went with Google's Pixel phones, they'll update their OS for 7 straight years. Samsung will do a few, but some others, you get what you get.

Well yeah, the moto G4 was 7 years old by then.

Motorola is literally the only android maker in the US with such short support windows. Google, Samsung, and Apple all do 7+ years. Even then, you get 3 years out of Motos, and ford supports the last 7 versions, so thats a decade of support.
I don't disagree, but as a phone, it worked just fine.

HRG
Right, but you were not just using it as a phone, you were trying to use it as an interconnected smart device.
Luv digital tech, pay up or get out. But being old I can say good by. Feel sorry for the next couple generations that will be trapped with it.
Nobody forced you to use the app. You can drive like its 1980 and things like remote start hadnt been invented yet.

I have the pixel fold (personal) and a iPhone 17 pro max for work. I much prefer the Pixel, and the Bootloader isn't locked down tighter than a frogs ass.

The OP has a device that no longer supports ROM updates, and 0 Security/Kernel updates. I wouldn't keep my banking info on that phone... Some people live on the edge, and some soak the matches in gasoline.

Seriously, upgrade... Even the cheaper phones others have pointed out will serve you well for several years.

I'm not for thowaway tech, but your phone is nearly 9 years old. Besides not supporting most of the current app versions in the Play store, your device has not been getting security updates for something like 7 years.

At least on the newer Android devices, long term updates have got a lot better, closer to what Apple does supporting hardware /w OS updates and security patches as long as it legitimately can be.
Yeah, all my desktop computers are ancient- so is my iPad, but they ain’t broke, so I’m crossing my fingers but the phone is different- it’s my emergency situation so it’s within the current OS. Time to upgrade 😬
