My Mav has AWD feature. I don’t care for it, nor a 4 wheel drive setup. Don’t intend to do any AWD or 4 wheeler schemes. But unfortunately when shopping for Mav, this puppy was available. So bite bullet, got it with AWD. And disappointed can’t turn it off.

As for this video of driver crashing into the truck, he obviously some kind of hurry, passing on a snowy/iced road. But his action reminds me of our local drivers who tries to take my back and front bumper off when passing, even on dry road on a clear day. And if one honks at these passers, they get angry. Some kind of hurry. Insensible hurries….get in accident, they had it coming.
🤓 🤔 and there are so many other vehicles with just two wheel drive, yet you went with the four???

Being in a location where it does snow, I will say it again and again: GOOD SNOW TIRES.

The Bronco Sport in my signature is equipped with AWD/lockable diff, but the real reason it handles better in the winters here is the Nokiam Hakkapeliitta studded snow tires. Same for my F150 4WD.

I only have all-seasons on the Maverick - which is why when it snows or the roads are icy, it is sitting at home.

I remember my father telling me a story that he was a passenger in one of the work trucks, he worked for the sheriff's department, and they we're using the truck or SUV, whatever, to pick up a prisoner. It was icy and snowing and My dad's partner was driving kind of fast and my dad said slow down. The kid said it's okay it's four-wheel drive or all wheel drive whatever it was, and my dad said that might help you in situations where there's snow when you might get stuck but four-wheel drive does not keep you from sliding on ice you idiot. For some reason I always laugh when I think about that.

White, looked at few 2WD trucks. Not happy with them, be it form, fit, function or price. Many, felt like cabin cramped. At time looking check for 2WD Mav. There were some, but cross country. And most on dealers lots were accounted for. This XLT popped up locally, yet a AWD model, so chose it.

Here where I live, the first fair sized snowfall of the winter you always see Subaru’s and 4x4 trucks in the ditch. Not the vehicle, but overconfident drivers!

Not trying to argue but what does AWD have to do with this? Was the car AWD?
Well In truth It was. Because of our technique. I always felt like I had AWD when I was sideways making a fast right through a big Intersection, with an audience.
I mean I was using ALL my wheels to drive. My Turbo was my Motor Cross skills ,"P

Come on guys, the statute of limitations has long ran out on our Street racing dayz.

My partner said that with 4wd (awd not common) , you just went in deeper. In Ontaio we get reports that the highway are track bare or centre bare. The pavement is clear in the lane or tire tracks, but ridges of snow/slush on the edges, maybe 4" -6" high. Get one side on the vehicle at 40-50Mon into these and you are spinning out. Doesn't matter if you have AWD/4AS or even good winter tires. I
ADD has its place, but it doesn't help with braking or steering.I

That's exactly it, few winters ago up on Blue I was trying to get to my range, and I got stuck with my Escape.

When buddy I grew up with showed up with the tractor, I joked about how it would've been nice to have a 4wd truck, I would have made it there.

He just said "nope, you wouldn't have. You'd just be paying me more to pull you out from deeper in"

I had a Crosstrek pass me during a blizzard only to realize that going 20 under was safer when they came face to face with an 18 wheeler around a blind turn. They maintained the same speed I was going in front of them after that lol.

My reaction as it happened and I see the brake lights come on

AWD is always off, unless it detects slip.

Actually, it does add to steering. I'm not sure how sophisticated Fords' driving nanny is that powers the rear wheels, but simple FWD asks an awful lot of your front tires. In low traction situations the added transfer of power may keep you heading where you intend. On the track you can be on the power a lot sooner coming out of an apex.
