Someone in this thread mentioned using rear headrests from a C-Max. So... This past weekend, I "borrowed" one from my wife's 2017 C-Max and it fit perfectly in the rear of my Mav. As someone else mentioned it does not lock when fully down as the notch in the rod is a bit smaller, but it is not going anywhere. I would think any C-Max rear headrests would work as the C-Max was a pretty short model production (2013-18).

Quickly put it back before my wife noticed...

Some people are just willing to put their life in danger to help others. Thanks.

Thank you @MadeSmall for figuring this out and posting it. (y) The difference in visibility is worth it. I got mine from a local salvage yard and picked up an additional set if anyone has an interest (my post is in the for sale section here).

This is cool and something I had planned on doing but seeing they don't fold totally down I think I'm going to skip it. Thanks for the photos!

I wish they folded flat down against the seat like in many mini cans back seats.

I've since installed a rear view camera in the back can window. I highly recommend. Covers unimpeded view, cargo view, and blind spots.

I just did this modification for more visibility. It is a great and easy mod and it matches perfectly with my XL seats. I picked up the Escape folding rear headrests on eBay. Funny enough the 2023 and 2024 escapes don't have the folding rear headrests anymore...

So make sure you buy ones that do indeed fold! From a 2017-2022 Escape I believe

in two years i have never had a rear seat passenger.
I can't even fathom that. I have no children and I always have rear seat passengers. Interesting how differently we all live.

The headrests on my front seats are folding, I have a lariat EB.
I have lariat also. The front seat folding is automatic in a collision which reduces the whiplash travel distance the airbag throws the head. To unfold it you have to fold it all the way forward then tip it back up. You can ratchet it forward a click at a time if you prefer it tilted forward.

I had these in my 17 Colorado and was disappointed the mav's didn't fold. I just put them under the seat yesterday.

One thing I refused to be without on my Mav was blind spot warning as the Colorado didn't have it and after driving my wife's suv on trips, I really came to like it.

Apparently you never have rear seat occupants. Removing the rear units would put your rear seat occupants in danger of their heads going into the rear glass upon an accident, if you do not put the units back in before transporting rear set passengers. I would check with your insurance company for removal negating your insurance coverages.

Its a TRUCK. You don't use your rear window like you need to in a car, you use your side mirrors. What are you going to do when you have a high load or a flipped-up tonneau cover in the way?
🤓 🤪 You funny

I love this idea. I am wondering if there are any other headrests that might fit too, in order to solve the locking tab incompatibility. Our Mav spends much of it’s time with the headrests off, due to one of it’s drivers being short, and liking the better visibility. But we have to always carry the headrests with us in case we do have a back seat passenger.

Having said that, the Escape headrests look very similar to the Mav’s stock ones, and our existing neoprene seat covers might just fit.
after seeing htis thread, I've started the search for some of the folding headrests....
seems you can buy the locking tabs/inserts/whatever you wanna call them separately
