Flat towing question

Ok I was just thinking about when we flat tow with our 2023 XLT Hybrid behind our motor home since our new ride has the automatic braking I’m not sure what the distance is to trigger the automatic braking but I would assume that the automatic braking is disabled once you put the key to off after hooking up the Maverick if not since the distance from the motor home to the Maverick has to be close enough to activate it. Am I correct or wrong?

Towing Your Vehicle - Recreationally Towing Your Vehicle - Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV)
RECREATIONALLY TOWING YOUR VEHICLE - HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE (HEV)

Follow these guidelines if you have a need for recreational towing. An example of recreational towing is towing your vehicle behind a motorhome. These guidelines ensure that you do not damage the transmission.
Note: Put your climate control system in recirculated air mode to prevent exhaust fumes from entering your vehicle. See Climate Control.
You can tow your vehicle with all four wheels on the ground under the following conditions:

• You switch Neutral Tow on.
• Your vehicle is facing forward for towing in a forward direction.
• You release the parking brake.
• You do not exceed 70 mph (113 km/h).

Switching Neutral Tow On

1. Switch your vehicle on in accessory mode.

1. Press the menu button on the steering wheel to enter the information display main menu.

1. Select Settings.

1. Select Neutral Tow.

1. Follow the instructions on the information display.

1. Fully press the brake pedal.

1. Shift into neutral (N).

1. Switch the ignition off.

Note: Switching neutral tow on requires battery power.
Note: If the parking brake is applied, a message appears in the information display.
Note: If your vehicle has an ignition key, you cannot remove the key from the ignition when the transmission is in neutral (N) and your vehicle is off.
Note: Start the engine and allow it to run for a few minutes at the beginning of each day, and every six hours or fewer. With the engine running and your foot on the brake, shift into drive (D) and then into reverse (R) before shifting back into neutral (N). Before continuing to tow, switch neutral tow on.

You are welcome. Please think long and hard before installing or having someone install the prettier Roadmaster baseplates. It requires the destruction of the lower section of the active shutter system. Gives Ford an out for heat related warranty issues. I've seen lots of Mavericks that have Roadmaster baseplates and I cringe...

The Blue Ox is harder to get a pretty install, but at least it won't cause warranty issues. I have long been a Roadmaster fan, but am hoping they go back and re-engineer a proper baseplate for the Maverick. I'll continue to tow my C-Max while waiting.

It would probably take Ford $50-$100 worth of metal to generate a towbar baseplate option that is worth $750-$1000 to pay for as an option...along with minimal engineering effort. Blue Ox is pretty much the only safe game in town now.

It depends on what you’re towing it with I have a roadmaster set up so I had to get a an air pressure reducer because of the Maverick electronic brakes. It’s a good thing I did some research a lot of people have flat spotted tires.

So are you talking about the braking system operated from the RV or something else. I don’t have a remote braking on the RV never have had as long as I’ve been towing.

I have a Monaco Dynasty DP so air brakes. I have a road master brake assist that attaches to my brake pedal,on my Nissan I just put it on and drov it works off the air brakes in the RV. I had to install a pressure regulator for the Maverick so the brakes don’t lock up when applied in the RV.

Since this old thread is back live, I am pleased to report that DEMCO has produced a baseplate for the Maverick Hybrid that both looks great AND leaves the active shutters alone. They told me (on 7/17/23) that shipping would start in 3 weeks. MSRP is $655. Etrailer has no ETS yet. They usually sell for at least $75 less than MSRP out. Roadmaster has a $50 converter from a Roadmaster towbar to the Demco baseplate.

Ok Indiana does not require brake assist so I don’t have one. My RV is a Freightliner Berkshire I know the RV plug has the wiring for brake assist but Roadmaster dealer doesn’t run the wiring to the Maverick.

You plan to do all your RVing in Indiana? It isn't like a driver's license...Indiana requirements for vehicle equipment on Indiana roads do not carry over to other states.

It’s where it’s registered not where you drive it. I’ve been driving class A’s for 20 years and never had any issues.
